News

by Dave Demko and Ray Tapio

The news at last year's Origins was that Uli had struck a deal with Ray Tapio to make MiH a Critical Hit brand. The idea was to relieve Uli of the burden of running what had become quite a large game publishing operation. Uli has therefore been able to concentrate his work on the games themselves more than on the business. Results so far have been good, with Dirk's Kasserine game, another WW1 title from Ted, and an East Front game using the Turning the Tables system. The future is promising as well. Be sure to check the catalog in this magazine for the full line of MiH games.

New from MiH

Ted Raicer's Royal Tank Corps: We expect to sell out this "instant classic" is no time flat as the title is just plain fun. RTC features an area movement system that can be played by one or more players. Two sheets of large 5/8" counters and an expanded map fill out this boxed title. New art was commissioned for the box, for that matter.

Drive to the Baltic! (formerly Operation Doppelkopf 1944) It's almost the end of the war but the Germans still have some bite! This operational game of armored warfare features a gorgeous map by Joe Youst. It's an East Front game and there's an audience living for this kind of material. Uli has recently overhauled the game using the latest version of MiH's popular Turning the Tables system. It employs all new OOB research. The Turning the Tables system is back! Tunisia '43 The Battle of Kasserine The Battle of Kasserine has never seen such an in-depth approach. It's been updated to be an all new game using the super-detailed yet fun to play TF/PtR system. The game plays on a detailed new map and takes the Piercing the Reich operational warfare system to the next level, and includes a high-quality set of 420 counters and an extensive rule book with lots of examples.

Upcoming MiH Titles

Normandy: The Great Crusade Designer Danny Holte got our interest with his promise of the tightest order of battle for a D-Day game. Combine that with a nice large (read "long" and playable on an average gaming table) map and a playable, yet detailed approach to the battle and we were hooked. This is a must-have game for the enthusiast of the battle of Normandy. Planned for release in summer 2000.

Streets of Stalingrad The buzz has been, well "buzzing" while we have been developing away at this monster project. Get ready to get to know talented designer/development team Dana Lombardy and Dave Parham again while girding for the debut of new industry talent Art Lupinacci in the design and development field. It's a Christmas 2000 release and will be manufactured in limited quantities.

Tobruk: The Silver Anniversary Edition is still looking good for Origins. This is a serious monster game, significantly reworked from the original published in 1974. The game initiates a new series covering super-detailed tactical combat in North Africa. Rommel's War in North Africa Round 1: Get ready for a new card game (not collectible cards) from MiH! It's slam it down action featuring the early war in North Africa. All the weapons systems are there for 1940-41 actions in this fast-moving and fun card game. Boxed. One ten-sided die. Streets of Stalingrad is now an October 2000 release. It includes many new changes to the original and is a massive game, including all new counter and map artwork.

Gotterdamerung is planned for September 2000. It covers the last battle for Berlin, 16th April to 9th May 1945.
