This is an introductory scenario designed to train in the techniques used for assaulting the Spanish line. It pits one Soviet battalion plus armor support against one reinforced Spanish company plus a counterattack. After a wild race across the steppe, elements of 63rd Guard Division with tanks in support, assault the fortified position of El Bastion. Map Area: Map B (only), area west of xx.09 (inclusive).
Soviet Information:Set Up: 1-269 (of 63rd Guards Rifle Div), 2 x Inf Gun (76mm), FO-269, 1st Red Banner Tank Brigade (2x KV-1, 3x T-26): north of 22.xx (inclusive). Artillery available: Battalion 3 of the 343 Artillery Rgt, 63 Gd Division (152mm). Artillery Prep Log needed? No. Artillery Ammo: 152 mm: 10 HE, 3 Smoke Orders: Capture El Bastion from the north. Axis Information:Set Up: 3-MR, 14-262 (1x AT(37), 1x AT (75)): w/i 4 32.06 Reserves: 1-Engineer Bn (3x Inf, 1x MG), setup w/i 1 42.06 Artillery Available: Battery 3 (105mm) of the 250th Artillery Rgt. Artillery Ammo: 105mm: 10 HE, 2 smoke Orders: Hold El Bastion. An Implemented Prepared Defense Op Sheet exists at start. The Axis player may place 2 minefield counters within 4 hexes of his dug-in troops. The 1-Eng battalion is in reserve (see special rule 1). Victory:The player who controls both hexes of El Bastion wins. If each side controls one hex, the result is a draw. Special rules:1) To release the reserve (1-Eng), the Axis player rolls one die in every command phase starting with turn 2. On a roll of 1 or 2 the reserve is released. Until then it can not move (but can fire). The reserve is released automatically on turn 4 whatever the die roll. 2) The weather is Clear during the whole scenario.
