Dean and I would like to run a series of TCS Tactical Problems which will appear in Operations (probably every other issue) and also simultaneously on The Gamers Web Site. While there will be no one right solution to each tactical problem, there will certainly be good and poor solutions. Dean and I will judge the solutions offered and the winner will receive a $10.00 credit towards products from The Gamers. Who said being a tactical genius never paid off? If a number of equally good winning solutions are submitted, the winner will be determined randomly from among them, but of course all good/interesting solutions will be acknowledged in Operations and everyone who offers a solution will be listed. Follow-up articles considering some of the solutions offered and discussing the tactical aspects they raise will also be included. The first problem is taken from GD '41, scenario 4.1 Repulse of SR 12. This problem is one of overall planning, as opposed to actual tactical maneuvering. Please submit a battle plan for the Soviet side which includes the following:
Dean and I will be looking for solutions that demonstrate a clear understanding of the situation, accurate analysis of German capabilities and weaknesses, and a plan that maximizes Soviet strength and minimizes German strength. Since Dean and I are both fans of Maneuver Warfare, it's probably a good idea to consider MW concepts in your solution! Creativity that is based on solid analysis is also a plus. Try to keep your text to 750 words or less, not counting the set-up. You may include a graphic from an Op Sheet copy if you like to clarify your plans. The deadline is 20 July 1997. Entries must submitted typed or on diskette (either PC or Mac) as text-only or e-mailed. Send to: Lee Forester The winner will be announced and solutions discussed in Operations 27. I expect that the Gamers-1 list will also provide a forum for further discussion and "dialog" (OK, arguing). If there are questions, please phone me (616) 393-9533 during normal family hours (EST) or e-mail me at the above address.
