Dungeons & Dragons:
The Thin Edge of the Wedge

I know that the historical purists among us will cringe at the very mention of Dungeons and Dragons, but as a Dungeon Master for the past 20 years, I beg to differ. I find that I can run dungeons for the kids in my family, and still run historical wargames every week. I can also walk and chew gum, so I understand how ANYTHING other than historical games may be an acquired taste.

Remember, from a Dragon’s point of view, you are small and crunchy and go well with ketchup.

I’ve always considered Dungeons & Dragons to be the thin edge of the wedge for recruiting youngsters into wargaming. If you give a youngster the Hoch und Deutschmeister Regiment of your Austrian 7 Years War Army and tell him to maintain his
