415 N. Braddock St. Due to its strategic location at the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley, this area changed hands no less than 72 times during the Civil War. Stonewall Jackson used this Victorian home as his headquarters in the winter of 1861 and 1862. Prior to that it was the private home of Lt. Colonel Lewis T. Moore. Jackson's office remains nearly the same as it was during his stay, and the house still holds artifacts belonging to Jackson, such as his prayer book and camp table, as well as items once owned Turner Ashby, Jed Hutchkiss and other Confederate leaders. The house is filled with maps, photos, original Confederate flags, uniforms and other memorabilia that anyone passionate about the Civil War should appreciate. You can even check out an 1861 Springfield rifle, complete with the percussion caps, minnie ball bullets and ramrod.
