It's Not a War!

By Bob & Cleo Liebl

The natural reaction of wargamers, when put into any situation, is to treat it as if it were a war. The other guy is the enemy, and you MUST CRUSH HIM!

Well, not this time, for as Pogo once said, "We have met the enemy and they are us!"

Metal Miniature Wargaming in the eastern United States consists of HMGS East and a variety of regional organizations, such as our own NOVAG. Is it us or them? No. For wargamers it's us & them.

I support the idea of the three great HMGS East Cons. Why? Simple! The number of wargamers at Historicon attracts nearly a hundred vendors. They have lots of Neat Stuff. Cleo and I always find things we never knew existed, that once having been seen become vital necessities. You too, huh?

The leadership of HMGS East told us "they are not a club." Well, NOVAG IS a club. We gather together and play games without the corporate formality that others seem to require. I like that. Recently Cleo and I went over to the HAWKS wargame convention to put on a game, and were greeted a charming young lady at the door saying, "It's Bob & Cleo!" No corporate formalities. But then, maybe our wild shirts gave us away.

Can HMGS East exist without NOVAG? Ahem, well ... yes. But can HMGS East exist without all of the regional and local wargaming clubs between the Mid-west, the Atlantic, and the Gulf of Mexico? No! Can NOVAG exist without HMGS East? Yes, but would the shopping be as good without the Mall of Metal Miniatures? No. So there you have it. There exists a symbiotic relationship between the local organizations and the national organization. Who benefits?

Wargamers!

Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday.

One nice thing about egotists: they don't talk about other people.
