Ever since Stone Mountain producing their line of 6MM Adlers, I have completed a British and French army using these quality figures and based them to Napoleon's Battles (NB). During a recent game, Dan Willey mentioned that when you combined four of the bascs together, they would be the saw size as one 15MM base. Although I used half size bases for a larger scaled game (1/2" = 1"), I never thought of using 6MM in place of 15MM and suddenly, the images of mass twits attacking across the table would give the game a more "Napoleonic" look. To start with, all base sizes for Cavalry, Infantry, and Artillery are halved. The command stands can stay the same base size and with the same number of officer figures, cuts down on the confusion. This would mean that the infantry stand of 3/4" by 1" would become 3/8" by 1/2" and all figures arc mounted the sxnc. (Hint: If the infantry figures get too crowded on the base. especially dim that are in the advancing pose, you can mount the figures in the rear rank at shoulder arms). The drawing shows you how a 4 stand 6MM brigade would compare to its 15MM counterpart. So without changing the rules, you have quadrupled the number of figures in the game. The benefit is when you take a casualty, you just remove a stand, and no more large "hats" or "circus rings" to mark the unfortunates. Your figure representation also changes from 120 men per figure to 30 men per figure. As for artillery, we use two stands of the same type of guns to represent a battery. If your battery is damaged, just remove one of the guns but still retain the base, see the example: Unfortunately, since we have quadrupled the number of figures, the price per unit has changed. Lets checkout the price; a 4-stand unit of 4 figures (15mm is 16 total figures x $.185 = $2.96 (using Old Glory figures). Now a 16 stand unit (same size as a 15mm 4 stand unit) of 4 figures (6MM) is 64 figures x $.108 = $6.91: a difference of $3.95 more per 4 stand unit (15mm size). Although this sounds costly, other aspects of this system. like using normal 15MM scale command basing (there are 22 general figures in the pack which should be enough to do a small army) and by using only one flag stand per unit, should bring the price down to a more reasonable level. We tried this system with the units I currently have and the improvement to the visual and working aspects of the game is tremendous. As for markers, I have not seen any "casualty" figures in 6MM, so I still use the cardboard couplers made available with the NB rules. This system can easy be done with other miniatures rules that are on the market or for those of you who enjoy home-made rules.
