The Wargames CD

Requests

by Russ Lockwood

We received the following press release.--RL

Attention actors/re-enactors living near Chicago,

The following volunteer positions are being requested for a series of short video segments for inclusion on "The Wargames CD" -rom currently in development by Terry Cabak.

An example of potential use in that when a user clicks on the menu's link for a rule book on ancient/medieval wargames with miniatures, a short .avi video starts playing, fading in to a scene of morning fog from which a mounted knight appears and scans the horizon, or perhaps a group of archers. Most of the video segments would not be of any length longer than that shot. A gun crew firing a cannon could be obtained at any of the Illinois re-enactments occuring this May/June.

This particular concept for The Wargames CD rom is a relatively new idea with the only constraint being that it cost nothing but time to produce and the knowledge that no one will get any compensation, except (maybe) a copy of the CD-rom prototype. The Renaissance Faire in Bristol, WI and Medieval Times in Schaumburg are potential contributors, both of which would also benefit from splashy advertisements placed on the CD-rom, and potentially self-occuring at various intervals or be part of the screen saver included in the CD-rom.

Programmers: If you or anyone you know can contribute batch-files for the PC cd, please let me know otherwise I'll have to make these myself and I just can't remember everything.

Potential interviewees: Your segment might be as short as demonstrating the components of your equipment or talking about a era's military tactics and formations.

Rev War/1812 - any uniforms, interviews, re-enactment, demo of equipment
WWII- any uniforms, interviews, re-enactment, demo of equipment
ACW- any uniforms, interviews, re-enactment, demo of equipment
Ancient/Medieval/Renaissance- any uniforms, interviews, re-enactment, demo of equipment
Modern Ground Combat -any uniforms, interviews, re-enactment, demo of equipment
Air combat - contact needed. Players of F22 from NovaLogic encouraged to reply
Naval combat contact needed. Players of Wooden Ships/Iron Men & Fletcher Pratt et al, encouraged to reply
In all these situations gamers of CD-rom games and boardgames can also have valuable input for audio or video commentary. An example of audio-only is that when a viewer scans the pages of a rule book or vendor catalog, when going to the page about tanks an audio track suddenly starts to play and the voice is an excerpt from an actual account, read by an actor. If I don't get any actors for that kind of thing I guess I can sound like a Russian T-34 tank driver attempting to speak English. (cool idea, huh.)
Anyone who has recipes for cooking from ancient times to the ACW, feel free to send me your recipes. Samples of Goober Peas or Hard Tack need not be sent. :)
Also, does anyone know if a directory exists of every single hobby store in North America? That would be great to put on the CD too.
Let me know if you can contribute or if you have any ideas or questions about this project.
