Victorian/Colonial Uniforms

E-Mail List

by Russ Lockwood

We received the following press release.--RL

To: magweb@magweb.com
From: Aaron Liebling
Subject: Victorian/Colonial Uniforms Mailing List

I've started up a mailing list for the discussion of Victorian/Colonial uniforms. The focus is on GB and her colonies, but I imagine we'll get some discussion of everything. This list is not directly gaming related, but should still be of interest.

The list comes in a single email each day (slightly more of there is a lot of traffic) and already has members from the UK and Australia (mostly from groups doing reenacting, though also some pure historians and even some miniature painters).

I think it will be a very nice resource, whether from discussions of the merits of the various equipment used to "what colour facings did regiment x wear in 1877?", or "can anyone identify this uniform?".

To subscribe, send email to:

victorian-uniforms-request@lists.best.com

with the single word:

"subscribe"

It should be a fairly low volume list, so I don't think it will generate too much junk in your mailbox...hopefully just interesting information on the uniforms we love!

Best, Aaron Liebling

P.S. Please forward this on to anyone whom you think might be interested.

This mailing list is for the discussion of Victorian (primarily British) uniforms and equipment. Whether you are a historian, a miniatures painter with detail questions, a reenactor, or a collector of original uniforms, we welcome your input on the list.

Companies should not advertise more than once every 3 months, though they are encouraged to reply with information to posts that are germane to their products/services.

Please refrain from spamming the list with unrelated material (though any Victorian/colonial military discussion is generally welcome) and keep the language relatively clean. Discussions which no longer apply to the list topic should also be taken to email (as should all flame wars).

Finally, there should be no binaries (images or otherwise) mailed to the list. If you want to reference an image in a post, put it on a www site and reference the location in your post. If you need assistance with this, please contact me.

The 'no binaries' restriction keeps the mailing from being too large and is especially important for those who must pay for their net access by the minute. Posting the image on a www site with a link in your post allows only those who are interested to download it.

We hope you enjoy being a member of the victorian-uniforms list!
