Here is a press release passed along to MagWeb. It is an interesting concept. Historicon is late July 1998, in Lancaster, PA. --RL

Description:

The Rogue Miniatures Faction of the Eastern PA Gaming Society is pushing wargaming to the ultimate level with the "IRONMAN", 24 hours of wargaming delirium. Imagine 24 hours of gaming over 2 days, 2000 years, 5 different periods in history, 5 different rule sets, all on beautiful terrain in one location, PO River Valley, Northern Italy. Experience first hand the effects of terrain on tactics, weapons and military styles throughout the ages, from early ancients through World War II. Test your ability at playing different rule sets (we will help you through them), different tactics, and your ability to stay awake. Clubs and Teams are welcome to determine who is the best, with Prizes awarded for Best Player for Each Game and the overall IRONMAN. Adults only.

Ancients Scenario: 130 BC Marauding Gauls and German hordes from the North are heading south looking for greener pastures (and women) in the PO River Valley. Gaius Marius and Lucious Cornelious Sulla lead the Roman legions and their allied troops north out of Rome to stop the invasion. The Roman Marching Fort is positioned to block the advance, but is it enough and in the right place to stop them. Can the well-trained Roman citizen soldiers and their allies defeat the giant blonde Barbarians lusting for wine, women and song? Rule set: Heroic Ancients

Medieval Scenario: 1485 Milan & Swiss forces find each other in the Northern reaches of Italy looking for another town to conquer, another battle to fight. But what is this, more armies are marching northward from Rome and the trade city of Venice. Who will control this important piece of real estate and the bridge that crosses the river? Who are the allies and who are the enemies? Everyone seems to have a different goal and a different objective. "If the Pope falls in battle who's the new Pope??? "If the Duke of Milan falls will the evil brother-in-law be the new Duke??? Treachery is us!!!!!! Rule set: Days of Nights

Renaissance Scenario: 1623 As war rages across northern Europe, France sees an opportunity to eliminate Imperial and Venetian power in northern Italy in one fell stroke. The Emperor, heavily committed in Germany can spare precious little to relieve the town of Warona cut off and alone. The only hope of thwarting French ambitions lies with Spain. I guess it's good that the Spanish have long memories and little love for their northern neighbors...... Rule set: Verlorn Haufe

Napoleonic Scenario: 1796 The French see an opportunity for a little R&R and some Italian food in a small town on the PO River. The only problem is that no one told them the Austrians had the same idea. At first it was a friendly meeting, but then the generals decided it is now or never. Movement of troops can be slow and painful for both sides if they don't clear the enemy and set up for dinner. Pass the bread and gunpowder! Rule set: Shako

WWII Scenario: 1944 American forces approach the bombed out Italian village of Verona occupied by a small and somewhat cruel remnant of a German garrison left to protect the route back to Germany. American Intel indicates they can easily defeat this small resistance, but is this all the Germans have to give? Is it time to pour the Vino with the happy liberated townsfolk? Who can resist? Meanwhile Field Marshall Knockwurst and his German armored forces in Rome are hearing the fiddles playing and want to get back to the Vaterland to save their homes and Der Fuher. It looks as if the road to the north along the PO River is clean sailing, but is it? Rule set: Spearhead
