When MagWeb went off-line due to the ISP pulling the plug on us, we went scrambling to find another ISP and get back on-line. It took a while (Feb 3-23), but we're back with all data intact.
I know it's unsettling to be unable to log onto a site that's been around for nine years and constantly growing. And I certainly understand speculations that MagWeb folded, or ripped you off, or any one of a hundred other scenarios. But contrary to rumors of our demise, MagWeb.com is very much alive, kicking, and adding new publications and issues. And to make it up to our members, we added a free month to their memberships.
I want to share some e-mails that came in once MagWeb was back up and running....
- Thank you for this kind gesture. This is one of the reasons why I am, and will continue to be, a happy and loyal customer/member. Like many others I wouldn't have had an issue in 'losing' the month. It's just one of those things that happens sometimes.
- Thank you for the month's extension. It is a class thing to do and much appreciated. Glad to see you back up and running - I missed the service when it was not available.
- I appreciate your gesture of giving us a free month. Not necessary in my case. I have logged into your site just once since I subscribed. Not because I wasn’t happy about the results at the time, but because I haven’t had the time to do so. I feel it will be unfair to be credited for something I didn’t attempted to use in the first place. Thank you anyway and I wish you a lot of luck. I intend to renew when time comes.
- Very glad to hear that the problems are solved and you are again on line. Also want to thank you for your attitude, and if you want I would be very pleased to contribute with that month and for sure with next year's renewal. Really, as you say, "don't worry about it."
- Thank you for the update. And the extra month. It is comforting to know that there are still a few businesses (mine, too) who would rather do the "right" thing than the "acceptable" thing. GREAT WORK and please keep it up - you are a fabulous group and asset.
- Sorry to hear of your troubles. Yikes! Thanks for the extra month!
- Thank you for the explanation. Keep up the good work!
- I joined you guys in the early days when you first started out. Then I moved around for a few years and let things drop. In January I decided to take out a year's subscription again, only a few weeks before your double whammy. As I wrote to you folks on TMP, no problem on my front -- you folks provide a solid and dependable product. I'll stick with you through this and I still recommend you to friends.
- Thanks for your e-mail and for the update. I knew you'd be back ! All the best for the rest of the year and good luck for the huge job you are handling every month.
- That explains the strangeness that occured when you e-mailed me for my renewal. Could not log on so as with all things on the net gotta be careful. I must say I do not consult MagWeb very often but the few times that I do, I find it useful so you have me again for another year :)
Now I have to find that renewal e-mail, let's see...
- Thanks for the update, glad to hear it is all back to normal. Keep it up.
- OK, I was worried, thought you were going out of business! I cried at the thought that I had failed to "mine" a lot of useful information from the site before it expired. I have learned my lesson, download anything you think you might need later. Anyway, I am glad you didn't "go under" and look foreward to perusing you site for a long time to come.
- No problem
- Thanks for both the explanation and the added month to the sub. I know you had posted the explanation earlier but it was still good to see it. Thanks for the professional efforts of you and your team.
- Stuff happens. Just ask, say, Napoleon. Fortunately, you handled it better than he did. Don't worry, we've got your back.
- Thanks for the up-date. No problem from me, keep doing a great job and don't let s*** like this get you down!
Thank You for Your Support
E-mails like these really lift the spirits, especially when nine years of work hit an electronic brick wall. So, thank you for your patience.
We had our first face-to-face meeting with Signals, Inc., our new ISP. Many thanks to Phil and Amar for putting MagWeb back together again. Part of the discussion was about creating (or re-creating) MagWeb with newer technology so this doesn't occur again. We'll let you know how it progresses.
