American Civil War

Eagle Games, Inc., a boardgame design and manufacturing company, announced that it has released a new historical boardgame, entitled The American Civil War, for the holiday season, 2001.

The American Civil War is a boardgame of grand strategy and tactical battles during the epic struggle that divided the United States. The players take control of the war effort of the North as they attempt to save the Union, or the South as they attempt to gain independence for the Confederacy. They can lead armies into battle, build a navy, emancipate the slaves, enact conscription, or attempt to influence European involvement in the struggle to tip the balance.

The American Civil War joins Eagle Games’ new series of historical strategy games. “The Civil War was an obvious candidate for our new historical strategy game line,” said Glenn Drover, founder of Eagle Games. “Along with World War II, the Civil War is the most popular historical period to the American audience. It was a titanic struggle that, despite the North’s economic advantages, could have gone either way. The outcome of the Civil War affected the future of the U.S. and its role in the world - everything that came afterward, including both world wars and the cold war, would have been very different had the Civil War ended differently.”

The game will allow 2 - 4 players to recreate the entire war. Could the South have won independence? The game allows players to answer this question in an afternoon.

The American Civil War features 384 detailed miniature plastic pieces representing armies of infantry, cavalry, artillery and leaders; a colorful, gigantic 46” x 36” gameboard depicting the Union, Confederacy, border states and parts of Mexico and Canada at the time of the Civil War (featuring the artwork of Paul Niemeyer); and three sets of rules from Basic to Advanced. These elements immerse the player in the excitement, flavor and period detail of one of the most exciting eras in history, while providing fast, fun gameplay.

War! Age of Imperialism

Eagle Games, Inc., a boardgame design and manufacturing company, announced that it has released a new historical boardgame, entitled War! Age of Imperialism, for the holiday season, 2001.

War! is a game of empire building, exploration, economic expansion, technological advancement, diplomacy, and tactical battles in the age of Imperialism (1830 - 1900). Players rule one of the great powers of the era as they attempt to carve out an empire. Should they build up the army or economy? Negotiate or attack? Spend on research or a new fort to protect the frontier? These are just some of the options players need to consider.

War! Age of Imperialism joins Eagle Games’ new series of historical strategy games. “When designing War!, we wanted to create a game that has the primary goal of world domination,” said Glenn Drover, founder of Eagle Games. “ This is the ultimate form of escapism: ruling the world, the fantasy of total power. Many of the great men of history had the same dream - Alexander, Caesar, Napoleon. Now the players of War! can have the ultimate bragging rights.”

The game will allow 2 - 6 players to send explorers in to unknown regions to discover hidden treasures, create robust economies by developing resources such as ports and railroads, research new technologies to gain an advantage in production or battle, negotiate with native peoples, make alliances with other great nations, produce armies of infantry, cavalry, artillery and leaders to conquer new lands, and lead armies and fleets into tactical battles.

War! Age of Imperialism features 850 detailed, plastic miniature pieces representing armies of infantry, cavalry and artillery, as well as ports, factories, fleets, etc. The game is played on a colorful, gigantic 46” x 36” gameboard depicting the world in the late 1800’s (artwork by Paul Niemeyer), and contains 3 sets of rules from Basic to Advanced. These elements immerse the player in the excitement, flavor and period detail of one of the most exciting eras in history, while providing fast, fun gameplay.
