Hurricon 2001

28-30 September 2001 (Tampa, FL)

by Russ Lockwood

We received the following press release. --RL

Greetings HMGS-South Members and other interested parties,

It is almost time for our next show, HURRICON '01, 28-30 September 01 same location as previous shows:

Travelodge Busch Gardens
820 E. Busch Blvd
Tampa, FL 33612

1-800-288-4011 or 1-813-933-4011 for reservations. Between 9Am-5Pm ask for Linda and remember to mention HMGS-South or Hurricon. Our room rate until 28 August is $59.00 per night. After that you are subject to room availability.

If you have any problems getting a room ask for Marlene Englin or email her at sassymarlene1@aol.com and copy me at rhettscott@aol.com.

We already have several games on the grid, but we need lots more of all kinds from all historical, to boardgames to Warhammer, SFB, Void, VOR, etc.

I need you to send in your game registration data ASAP to me at the above email address and copy to Bryan Stroup at bstroup@garrison-clubs.org who will get in on the gamegrid on-line and in the PEL/Program.

We also need to hear from dealers that are missing in action for the show. I need your confirmed table count.

Last we need attendees. Only 5 have pre-registered. I realize you don't save much money, but we get a good headcount, your room in the hotel helps lower our costs, and remember we still have lots of good door prizes and Chuck Bucks.

The only way to get in the drawings with multiple tickets is to pre-register, get a room in your name (roommates don't count for tickets), and sign up to run at least one game. You will get a ticket in the bucket for each of those things, but only one if you show up at the door.

If you nee a form, it is in your newsletter or you can print it from http://hmgssouth.org/hurriconregistrationform.htm

The game grid is found at http://hmgssouth.org/hurricongames.htm

Also, forward this e-mail to ALL of your gaming buddies. I have a long list of addresses, but many are obsolete and many more are missing. I really need a max effort and help from each of you to pull the show together. We have had a decent early response, but now it is time for the full court press.

The hotel is improved over the last show and more renovations are continuing. They are doing what they can to earn back our business and good faith. Support me by attending and taking a room on premises.

I am still confident that within another year or so, we can expand to take over the entire hotel, but not with only 300 attendees. We need to bump up to 600-1,000 of all kinds of gamers.

In addition to our normal Armati, Battle Cry, SFB, and other tournaments, we want to start having Rogue Trader Tournaments with prizes, but I can't do that until we get commitments from potential tournament players and judges. That could bring in another 100 people to start and pave the way for a Florida based Grand Tournament.

I have also heard some rumblings about DBA and DBM tournaments. I can get prizes, can you bring players and judges?

We need to pull together to take the next step and move from small regional show to large regional/national convention.

Let me hear from each of you over the weekend and get those Games, reservations and pre-registrations in ASAP. regards to all, Rhett D. Scott President, HMGS-South 1416 Forsyth Way Brandon, FL 33511
