Amnesty International

at Foyles, UK August 7th-24th, 2001

We received the following press release. --RL

Dear All

As booksellers we care passionately about freedom of expression, and as an individual I care passionately about human rights. We have therefore made our Gallery here at Foyles available to Amnesty International for an exhibition of Photographs connected with the work of Amnesty, to run from August 7th to August 24th.

In conjunction with the exhibition we are hosting two evening events, a Private Viewing on Tuesday August 7th from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm and an evening of Music and Readings on Wednesday August 15th, at the same time.

As a collection the photographs are moving, disturbing and inspirational, and the Private Viewing will be a time to think about human rights issues generally. There will be readings by Anna Cartaret and Ben Okri, both keen supporters of Amnesty. At the second event there will be readings with Human Rights themes by people from widely different fields. Music will be by Robb Johnson and Mauricio Venegas, including part of their suite of songs based on the life and works of the late Victor Jara, the Chilean poet, with additional songs by singer/songwriter Maggie Holland.

We would love you to come. The tickets are free, issued on a "first come first served" basis. Please contact Foyles Luncheons line, 020 7440 3227, fax 020 7434 1575 or email jane@foyles.co.uk. If you can't make either evening please try to call in to see the photos.
