We received the following press release. --RL

HISTORICON (July 2001):

I will be running two events, one each on Saturday and Sunday. I believe Scott Kreiser will definitely be running a CA event or two as well, and there is a possibility that Al Parker, Stan Sunderwirth, and others may be running CA events also. (Updates to follow as I receive info.)

Saturday at 1200: BATTLE OF THE CHESAPEAKE, 5 Sept 1781. This was the most important and famous naval battle of the American Revolution. 19 British SOLs met 24 French SOLs off Chesapeake Bay to determine the fate of the British Army under Cornwallis. The British HAD to win a substantial victory to break the French blockade of Cornwallis' force; all the French had to do was not lose. In the event no ships were captured by either side, but the British had to burn one ship due to damage suffered and general unseaworthiness and had to retreat back to New York in the face of overwhelming numbers. By the time they returned, Cornwallis had surrrendered.

This will be the LARGEST battle I have EVER run at a convention setting, and it should be a blast! I'm really looking forward to ALL of you attending, and will need at least 30 players to make this a success. With your help we can have a great and fascinating HUGE battle to remember!

So please schedule your vacations, marriages, etc., to miss this weekend, and COME ON DOWN and have some fun!

Sunday at 1000: This will be another American Revolution naval battle, in keeping with the theme of Historicon 2001: I'll announce the exact battle as I have more information about the expected # of attendees.

FYI, if it makes a difference to anyone, I will NOT be going to Origins this year, sadly (lack of vacation time and money), and so I hope those of you who have to decide between Historicon or Origins will choose Historicon this year!

Please RSVP ASAP to (a) reserve a spot in any of the above events, or (b) to let me know that you can't make it. Mark Campbell [marka@tidalwave.net]
