War of 1812 Book

Coming in November

by Russ Lockwood

Sorry to withhold the details, but we wanted to "sneak leak" this--RL

My book on the Niagara campaign of 1814 will be published in November. Send me a mailing address and I'll send you the flyer. It's a lengthy book, over 400 pages, but it has over 20 maps. The first four chapters are background to the campaign. They outline the competing strategies and how they played out during 1812 and 13. There is a lot of economic, political, demographic, biographical material to set the campaign into context. I will be the first to admit it, this material is pretty dry. Anyway, the fun part of the story starts with the development of the campaign strategy, resourcing the campaign, Scott's training camp, the naval campaign on Lake Ontario etc. Once the campaign begins, there is a chapter on Chippawa, one on Lundy's Lane, two on the Seige of Fort Erie, one on Izard's arrival on the Niagara including a narrative on Cook's Mill. There are thumbnail unit histories of all British, Canadian, and U.S. battalions. I am proud to say that I've included a lot of material never before seen in print. The book was picked up by the History Book Club as an alternate selection but I do not know when they will offer it.
