The Gamers New Year

Sales and Contests

by Russ Lockwood

We received the following press release.--RL

New Year's Sale!

This sale has two parts:

1) 1999 Retrospect Sweepstakes!

Just to have fun, I wanted to try this out. Every order of $10 or more in the month of January 2000 entitles you to one entry.

Your entry is your guess (educated or not) as to the total number of Gamers unit sales in 1999 (usual employees and so on prohibited from particpation boilerplate...)

There will be 10x 2nd Place prizes and 1x Grand Prize...all based on proximity of one's guess to the actual unit sales total.

2nd Place Prizes: Every Gamers' game released in 2000 FREE (no charge, no shipping, etc.) plus a 4 issue sub or add-on sub to OPS.

Grand Prize: EVERY Gamers' game released from now _on_ FREE plus a never-ending sub to OPS.

Winners will be announced 10 Feb 00 (giving me time to collate/compute/ and recheck to make sure I have the winners and numbers exactly right). We'll refund any pre-pub payments made for a 2000 release already made by any winner.

Odds of winning are obviously based on the number of entries as well as the quality of the guesses. More than one entry can be made by a single individual, but requires separate orders of $10 or more to do...

2) January Order Bonus!

Regardless of the winners above, EVERBODY who enters the sweepstakes will get $5 off their January order (which computes into almost free shipping for most...)

3) Don't forget you can use your Drive on Paris Pre-pub made in January to enter the contest...if you already have a DoP order in, call and we will accept your sweepstakes entry based on that purchase (though it is too late to apply the $5 discount thing due to the paperwork involved...).

4) Also, the sale on In their Quiet Fields II, April's Harvest, Black Wednesday, Leros, and Marengo lasts until the end of January as well...while games already bought under that sale can't be applied (like DoP above), the sale is still there for those looking for an inexpensive way into the sweepstakes.

***Other important information:

1) Web Site, Shopping Cart, and such.

Our web site has been remodeled. A secure shopping cart is available to speed your purchases (safely) to us with a minimal amount of fuss, and it has photos of most of the products so you can see what things look like.

Among other things, the v3.0 OCS rules draft has been on-line for some time now and numerous guys have helped by writing me about things they saw in those rules that they felt could be done better. They are there for that purpose and so you can download them to use in your games now. They will be finalized when printed for Sicily next summer. For those wondering, OCS v3.0 incorporates all the various optional rules running around out there (the ones that made the final cut, anyway) into a single standardized official rulebook. The rules are directly usable with the older games

2) Send e-mail addresses.

We have our customer list now able to send our various mailings via e-mail to those who have e-mail addresses. Our mailing list is topping 8,000 right now (yes, it is still growing at the same rate) and the mailing costs are getting downright huge...e-mailing as many of them as we can will help in this tremendously. Please send your e-mail address if you'd like to help out (either by e-mail or in your next order). Many of you already have given us that information...we should still have it, but check if you are not sure or if it has changed. Thanks!

3) Drive on Paris and other Pre-pubs

Drive on Paris is now on Pre-pub at the website, but the mailing went out in December...check it out on the web-site for more details. Also, Aspern-Essling has been shipped, but there is still time to get in your order on the Second Stage prices.

4) Christmas Sale

We have five games still in excess inventory (ITQFII, April's Harvest, Black Wednesday, Leros and Marengo). These are all on sale now...details at the web site.

5) 1999 Repl Countersheets

The 1999 R/V errata went out in December. The counters went out to all subscribers who were current as of 9 Nov 99. Those who subscribed or re-newed between 10 Nov 999 and 31 Dec 99 will receive the counters in January 2000. We are short of the number needed (we had 2,000) and will be printing more next spring. The rest will be sent when the next batch is ready. Remember, you'll be getting the counters only if you fall into one of the following groups: 1) You kept an active mag sub at year end 2) You bought something from us in the 1999 or 3) You sent in a registration card from one of our games in the 1999.

6) Work in Progress

I'm up to my elbows in OCS v3.0 (seems to be almost done), Sicily, artwork for This Terrible Sound, final testing for Drive on Paris, and Age of Rifles. The latter has made some serious progress in the last few weeks.

7) 2000 Release dates
Drive on Paris: March
Sicily and This Terrible Sound: Origins, July
Frozen Hell: November

That's all for now.
