Light AA Fire Against Surface Ships (section 6.2.7).
Light AA fire is designed to put a large number of small projectiles into the air. This is the optimum strategy for downing airplanes, but will not do too much damage to ships. There are only two range bands for Light AA fire. Short range is from zero to SW yards, with a 6 to hit on a D10. Long range extends from 501 yards to 1000 yards, with a 2 on D10 to hit. The modifiers for surface gunfire do not apply.

Light AA Values:
twin .30 caliber mg, twin .50 cal mg .14
Single Mk4 20mm, Single Mk3 40mm 25
If the Light AA fire hits, apply the ship's Light AA Strength as damage points to the target.

Note: There is no director for the 37mm, so it is always subject to the local control modifier (section 6.1.3) halving the base chance to hit.

Rockets fired in a single salvo. One reload salvo carried, 10 minutes to reload manually Hit chance is rolled separately for each mount.

REMARKS
Many possible armament variations. On any boat the two aft torpedo tubes can be replaced by 4 Mk1 roll-off racks with one Mk6 DC each. First units fitted with Army SCR-517C radars in 1943, later standard fit was SO or SO3 radar.

  • 1943: The 533mm TT were replaced by roll racks for the Mk13 22.5 inch torpedo.
As built (2)2.50 cal, A(1)1 Mk4 20mm. Possible modified configurations:
  • F(1)l Mk3 40mm, A(1)1 Mk4 20mm, (2)2.50 cal. F(1)1 Mk4 or Mk9 37mm,
  • F(1)1 Mk4 20mm, 2(2)-50 cal, A(1)1 Mk3 40mm
  • F(1)3 Mk14 20mm, 2(2).50 cal, A(1)1 Mk3 40mm
  • F(1)1 Mk4 or Mk9 37mm, (2)2.50 cal, A(1)1 Mk4 20mm
The Mk50 rocket launchers can be added to any of these configurations after Mar 45. If a 40mm is carried, the 2 aft TT must be removed.
