Data Annex Booklet

Annex A

Japan

Ise/Hyuga In the remarks section, the reconstruction listed as "1943/33" should actually read - 1943/44.- The new configuration will appear in the next supplements on the Pacific War.

United States

Iowa: Change the Mk25 fire control radars for the 5 inch battery to Mk12. Change her date in service from 1942 to 1943.

Pennsylvania Change "Mk2 14 in 356mm/45" to "Mk8 14 in 356mm/45."

Nevada. The 14 inch 356mm/50 guns listed for the Nevada are actually Mk12 14 in 356MM/45

Wyoming. The 3 inch/50 battery is designated Mk20, not Mk26.

Baltimore. Add Mk3 fire control radar to the 8 inch battery, and change the 5 inch radar directors from "2 Mk37 & 4 Mk51" to "2 Mk4"

Wichita Delete the Mk33 and Mk34 directors listed for this class. These am optical directors only and should not be listed.

New Orleans: Under the 1944 refit note, delete the reference to the Mk51 directors for the 40mm guns. These are optical only, not FC radars.

Portland Delete the Mk27 and Mk19 directors. These are optical only.

Northampton: Delete the Mk24 director for the 8 inch battery. This is an optical director and should not be listed. Delete also the "M radar dir" listed for the 5 in/25 battery. This was not fitted in 1929 when the class was built, but was added as it became available.

Brooklyn (first group): change "Mk25 5 in 127mm/25" to "Mk27 5 in 127mm/25."

Benson-Livermore. Delete the Mk27 director listed for the TT. This is definitely not a fire control radar. Change "Mk6.9" to Mk6/9." Under the Late 42 refit note, delete die reference to the Mk51 directors for the 40mm guns. These are optical only, not FC radars.

B-25G (.2)
B-25H (.4)

Annex C

US Mk14 8 in 203mm/55 is used by the Pordand/Indianapolis class .

2.7 Start-up Battle In the 0021 turn, on the second column of page 2-10, Aoba and Kinugasa fire on Craven at medium range. Their adjusted chance to hit is incorrect, since the overconentration modifier (-2) does not apply to ships at medium range. The chance to hit is 6 on a D10.

3.4.1 Collisions and Ramming Resolution. In the example in the second paragraph, a carrier involved with a destroyer in a collision should have its speed reduced by 25%. The correct new speed is 24 knots, not 16 knots. The destroyers reduction of 75% to 8 knots is correct.

Page 5-13 Radial Search Sidebar. In the next to the last paragraph, change the phrase "two times the visual search radius * 2" to "the visual search radius *2." The 21 run figure is correct, the equation is wrong.

Page 6-2, Gunfire Hit Chance Modifiers Table: For target in line with sun, change "within one-half hour of sunset" to "up to one-half hour before sunset or one half-hour after sunrise."

Gunnery Damage (rules change): We have discovered a flaw in the gunnery damage system. At long ranges, it is possible for a ship with four single mounts to do more damage than a ship with three triple mounts of the same gun. Rule. At Long or Extreme range, no matter how many mounts or barrels are firing at a target, if it is hit, only one mount's damage is inflicted, reflecting the fact that only one shell of a salvo ever struck a target at Long or Extreme range.

A more thorough revision of the gunfire rules will fix die problem completely, but this simple fix works well in playtesting.

7.3.2 Declaring a Dogfight. On page 7-3, in the sixth full paragraph that starts "Third and last...", add a new sentence at the end "Aircraft not dogfighting, in normal flight, have a Maneuver Rating of zero."

7.3.7 Initial Position Advantage: On page 7-7 in the third column, in the third full paragraph, change "...use the number from two columns to die right." to "...use die number from one column to the right."

7.3.8 Formations: In the second paragraph, change "Mutual Support Table" to "Formation Table." On the Formation Table itself, the first line, for 3-6 aircraft, it should read two aircraft can fire, it takes 3 min to form, and suffers a 0% range reduction.

7.3.9 Resolving Air-to-Air Gan Attacks: On page 7-9, under Handling large numbers of airto-air attacks, in the second paragraph, change "...on page xxx" to "on the last page of the Data Annex Book."

7.4.6 Kamikaze Attacks: Under procedure, it states that a Kamikaze needs two Area AA hits to knock it down. Light AA is handled in exactly the same way. The Light AA strength is not halved. Change "Light AA hits are also halved,..." to "Two light AA hits are also required to shoot down a Kamikaze"

7.5-4.2 Runway Attacks: In the third paragraph, change "Only two bombs in a string ..." to "Only one bomb in a string.--" In the fifth paragraph, change "pair of craters" to "crater."

8.1.3 Surface Ship Critical Hits: in the first full paragraph under the Damage ratio table, change "...if the ship has an armor rating greater than one." to "...if the ship has an armor rating greater than zero."

Page 8-6, Cargo Damage Table: For ammunition, under the 3-7 die roll result, change, "Risk of explosion each following Intermediate Turn" to "There is a 25% chance of explosion each following Intermediate Turn."

For Petroleum Products, delete the Last sentence "If it is a refined product, add one." The modifier to the severity and reduction die rolls should be the same.

8.2.16 Other Weapon: In the second paragraph, delete the sentence, "If it is the Main battery, see 8.2.15." The main battery is not subject to this rule.

10.3.6 Approach Lane: Change "three Tactical Turns" to "ten minutes."

10.10 Extended Example. At 0645, when the boats are being unloaded, the unloading times are computed incorrectly. If it takes D6/2+1 tactical turns to unload, rolls of 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 translate to times of 2, 3, 3, 4, and 4 tactical turns. If it takes 15 minutes to lower the boats, then 4 tactical turns for the slowest ship to load them, they will all be loaded at 0712, not 0815.
