As we start to merge the data in the three games,WW II weapons are appearing in Harpoon, and WW I weapons are showing up in CaS .The Trilogy design team is tripping over the differences in the Annex designations. It’s no surprise that some weapons used in one conflict survived to the next. As long as we were just working on the “Big Three,” we could ignore the differences, but we're developing both an early Harpoon supplement (Stars & Stripes ) and an interwar product (Biplanes & Battleships ).These mix a lot of equipment, and problems with duplicate entries and differing combat models are cropping up everywhere. And beyond the editing problems, we're also getting questions about how the different games model similar effects. So, we're going to begin “harmonizing” the data, so that the same weapons will have the same statistics in all three games. The first step is to organize the Annex names so that the same name is used in every Trilogy product. Not all annexes are needed for every supplement, but the current system is purely accidental. There are a lot of inconsistencies in the designations. Why are missiles D while SAMs are S? There's also a lot of new data we'll be adding, like ground equipment. This is a chance to create an appropriate section for that. And there is “organizational ” data -- SAM batteries, carrier air groups (why are they annex R?),and the TOEs for ground equipment. We can systematize their designations as well. The new designations are shown on this page. An annex with a numeric suffix is a “sub-annex,” with speci .cations, while a letter suffix is a “supporting annex,”i.e., no specs but useful data for the players. There is a danger of getting too anal here, but I’m willing to risk it. If we’re REALLY anal now, then this won’t be an issue for the foreseeable future. Of course, this is the easy part. Having agreed on what to call each of the Annexes, we now have to bring the data together so that it's consistent across all three game systems. The first to be modified will be torpedoes and mines. We are working on a new set of formulas that will take into account fuzing type (contact or influence) and explosive filler (in TNT equivalents). This will correctly model torpedo lethality across the entire Twentieth Century. All the annexes, including radar, sonar, air ordnance, and guns (especially guns!) will receive the same treatment. Some of the modifications will be simple. Others, like guns, will take a lot of time to research. Don't expect all these mods to take place quickly. Some inconsistencies will be blithely ignored,if the product allows. I'm sure there will continue to be changes to the Annex designations as time passes. Hopefully, though, this will give us a framework for consistent expansion. The categories for the ground equipment are illustrative. We won't actually decide on the subannexes until the full Ground Combat Rules are finished.
