In Print Dave Schueler’s Harpoon Naval Review ‘03 is back from the printers and is available for those that haven't pre-ordered it. The cost is $30. Several products are in development right now. The next Harpoon product will be Stars & Stripes. It will be similar to High Tide, including scenarios and statistics for 1960-1980, and will cover the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, the 1967 and 1973 crises in the Mediterranean, and hypothetical scenarios as well. The 1960s have never been covered in Harpoon, and the supplement will allow us to add a lot of new platforms, weapons and other systems to the game. The next product to actually appear will be for Command at Sea. Christoph Kluxen’s Baltic Arena covers the Russo-German war in the Baltic in WW II. This was very different from the blue water combat in the Atlantic, Pacific, or the Mediterranean. Small craft and mines were the norm. The supplement is in draft, and will be out by the spring of ‘05. For Fear God & Dread Nought, Bill Madison and Jay Wissmann are preparing a booklet of Form 10s for all the ships that fought at Jutland. Since most of the Grand Fleet and High Seas Fleet fought there, this will provide ship forms for almost any WW I battle the players choose to play. For the Computer If you've read the press releases on page 2, then you know that the long-running effort by SSI to publish a new version of Computer Harpoon has officially ended. The effort to develop a computer version of the paper Harpoon 4 rules will continue. Don Gilman, president of Advanced Gaming Systems, and Chris Carlson and I had a meeting in late April where we discussed our goals and what resources were available. Nothing will happen quickly, because without a publisher’s support, less money is available for hiring programming staff. But hopefully, by keeping the development in-house, we will be able to control the development effort in a way that was impossible before.
