Fear God & Dread Nought

Corrected Example

By Larry Bond

There is a discrepancy between the Sample Ship Reference Sheet printed in the FG&DN rules booklet and the blank Ship Reference Sheet in the Jumpstart booklet. The last block in the Anti-Aircraft Guns line on page 2-4 of the rules has “Anti-Aircraft Guns, ” “Area AA Strength/Range” and “Light AA Strength.” In the Jumpstart booklet, the line reads “Anti-Aircraft Guns, Anti-Aircraft Range” and “Anti-Aircraft Strength.”

The (blank) version of the form in the Jumpstart is correct, and is consistent with the rules.

To explain what happened, the FG&DN AA rules started out like CaS, with separate Area and Light AA values, but halfway through the design process, we decided to simplify the rules and combine all AA fire into a single value. Unlike WW II, all AA gun fire in WW I was in defense of the ship the guns were mounted on, and ranges were so short that they were virtually point-blank. There really was no such thing as “Area AA. ”

While we changed the rules text, and also the blank Ship Reference Sheet, we forgot to update the Sample Ship Reference sheet and Annex A. Thus, any ship listings created before the change still have separate values for Area and light AA, while those created afterward have a single “AA Btry” value. . There isn't enough space to list all the classes and corrected AA values in the SITREP, but luckily, the fix is simple: Just add the Area and Light AA values together, and use that as the correct AA strength. In addition to the error in the AA values, the torpedoes listed on the Sample Ship Reference Sheet are also the wrong type.

The corrected sheet is shown.
