As of early 2003, China had 48 Su-27SK, 40 Su-27UBK and around 58 Su-30MKK, all delivered from Russia. A further 32 of a planned 50 Su-27SK have been built from supplied kits. China plans to license-build a further 150 Su-27SK by 2008. A further 38 Su-30MKK will probably be purchased. PGM and advanced AAM have also been supplied.

The N-001VE is a variant of the N-001 developed especially for the Chinese Su-30MKK. It has basic air-to-ground ranging modes added (factored into bombsight mods). The Zhuk-M has more extensive air-to-ground capability. The Zhuk-ME was formerly designated Zhuk-MS.
