In Print Fear God & Dread Nought is done! After years of development, all five books have gone to the printers. There is a 128-page rule book, a 107-page scenario book (High Seas Fleet), a 144-page Data Annex Book, a 26-page Jumpstart booklet, all in a box for $95, and a 26-page Players Handbook for $10. We started thinking about FG&DN in 1995, and started development of the game the following year. We’ve overcome war and sickness and a dozen other distractions. The design team, which included myself, Chris Carlson, Ed Kettler, Mike Harris, and half a dozen scenario designers have re-searched, proofed, and corrected a mountain of material. Many people ordered the game early, and have kept the faith, waiting (more or less) patiently. We’ve been very aware of all those waiting while we worked to finish it. We tried to do it quickly, but we also tried to do it right. I hope the wait is worth it. CaS With FG&DN done, the next project to be developed is Mighty Midgets. Playtesting is underway, and development of both the extensions to the standard rules and the role-playing section is well along. A lot of other projects, like Gruppe Nord and Baltic Arena, are also progressing. Harpoon Work continues on High Tide. It will be released at the same time as SSI’s Harpoon 4 . For the Computer SSI has been bought by Ubisoft, a French Game company. Ubisoft purchased it from a holding company, who purchased it from Mattel, who purchased The Learning Company, who had purchased SSI. Confused? Good, now you can join the rest of us. After some initial hesitation, Ubisoft has decided to finish the game, already under development. The developer, Ultimation, has not changed during all these buyouts, and has been laboring away as best they can amid the high-level confusion. SSI is still committed to bringing out a game that faithfully models the Harpoon 4 miniatures game, with whatever enhancements the computer format allows. Check SSI’s website for information on Harpoon 4 , once the smoke clears.
