When we assembled Annex A we made certain
assumptions about the Russian Navy and its free fall. While they
have scrapped or abandoned dozens of ships, several old
classes remain in service. In fact, Admiral Golovko, one of the
Kynda class, is evidently still in service. In reserve for several
years, it was reactivated for the Russian Navy's 300th
Anniversary. While she floats and moves, the status of her
weapons and sensors in unknown. She should not be written
Off, though, since there are plenty of older units out of service to
cannibalize for parts.
The Kashins also remain in service. Of the twenty
built, four original-configuration ships are operational, as is one
unit of the Mod Kashin class. Provornjy, a conversion to test the
Uragan [SA-N-7] SAM system, was removed from service in the
early 1990s, but is included here for the sake of completeness.
While these ships are not first-line, they are
valuable units of the Russian Fleet. With their forces decaying,
any ship that can fight is important.
