The UK's Joint Rapid
Deployment Force

The UK has finally set up a Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ), based at Northwood, near London. This HQ is designed to be the UK's premier out of area command.

Basically, if a crisis breaks out somewhere, PJHQ will appoint a Joint Force Commander, who will then be assigned units to carry out the missions given him. The force mix is variable but the list below is intended as a guide to what may be used.

Core Units:

3 Commando Brigade
    (3 Royal Marine Bttns + supporting assets)
5 Airborne Brigade
    (at least 2 Parachute Bttns + supporting assets)

Front line Units:

Royal Navy

    1 CVS
    8 DD/FF
    2 SSN
    6 MCMV
    4 AO
    1 Clearance Diver Unit
    Component HQ

Amphibious Package

    1 CVS (or LPH)
    1 LPD
    5 DD/FF
    4 LSL
    1 ATS

Army Units

    Lead Aviation BG
    Lead Armd BG
    Lead Mech BG
    BdeTactical HQ
    Elms CSSG
    Med Recce Sqdn
    AAC Sqn (Lynx)

    12 Tornado GR1

Abbreviations: AAC - Army Air Corp, BG - Battlegroup [battalion-level all arms grouping], CSSG - Combat Services Support Group [Logistics], EOD - Explosive Ordnance Disposal.

Thc above can be considered a "pool" from which units are selected.
