Published six times a year, Military Parade is a slick, fact-filled, colorful defense magazine, like a lot of others, except for one important fact: it's published in Russia.

Yes, the times have changed. In an effort to foster exports of defense equipment, the Russians are publishing a magazine chock full of drawings, specifications and color photos of all their frontline equipment. The May-June issue pictured here has articles on the Smerch multiple rocket system, Russian naval mines, the Nona-SVK self-propelled gun, the Igla man-portable SAM series, the Sturm-S antitank weapons system, the Su-27, the Tu-160, Mikhr-series fast-attack craft articles on aerospace design and aerodynamics, the 125mm SPRUT antitank gun, an engineering reconnaissance vehicle, the Be-200 WIG craft, conversion of Russian nuclear subs into research ships, and many more.

Here's the kicker. Subscriptions run $360 a year. Maybe they're trying to cure their economic problems with this magazine. I split the cost with a friend and we just share the issues. Three or four people going together would lower the pain threshold even more.

If you can afford the price, get it.
