Remarks
Converted passenger liner Roma. Taken In hand Jul 41, conversion started Nov 41. Hull lengthened and bulged. Superstructure removed and internal structure rebuilt to add more subdivisions. Hangar can accommodate 26 Re 2001. 15 more could be suspended from overhead. 10 more parked on fight deck. Folding-wing version of R2001 under development would have increased capacity to 66. Virtually complete in Feb 42 but sabotaged to prevent use by the Germans, who seized the vessel soon afterwards. Bombed in Jun 44, damaged by British Chariots in 1945, then scuttled by Germans at Genoa. Salvaged in 1946, towed to La Spezia, scrapped 1951-52.
