I best to Historicon for the first time this year. I have been gaming for several years anti really enjoyed myself at Historicon. I have been to smaller conventions but nothing lit this size. The number of games being played was almost mind boggling to this first timer. The vending area was a dream come true. Virtually anything you like to game could be found in the form of miniature's or board games. I played in two games while I was there. One was a naval battle taking place during the Paraguayan war of 1868. The second was a WW2 German vs British at Sidi Rizig. This is just an example of the spectrum of games available. I would have played in more games, but I was doing a lot of observing of the different games and rules being used. The terrain on a lot of the games was spectacular and I intend to incorporate some of the terrain features into my personal games. I really had a chance to look at others painting skills and I was very impressed. Some of these people put a lot of time and effort into the painting and it really shows. Another feature I enjoyed was the flea market area. A visitor could rent a table space to sell his personal item's to other gainers. I sold a large portion of my unpainted micro-aurtor that I brought along. Not to mention, I also made several purchases of items I intend to use in the near future. I do intend on attending again next year. Maybe this little article will help to draw more garners to conventions so we can continue to grow as a strong hobby.
