The Black Undercoat Technique

by George Dullaghan

After reading about this technique I decide to try it. I just painted by 15mm Russian infantry of 1812 all black. I let them dry for 2 hours. I used a #2 brush and acrylic paint. I bloched the jackets green, the pants white, and the gun stock brown. Then I painted the hands and face flesh. In a few short hours I had a 24 man regiment ready to be based. I mostly watched television during the process.

The results were quite pleasing and I feel of slightly above average wargame quality. Since I have tens of thousands of professionally painted troops, I think I am a good judge of quality in a paint job on a 15 mm figure.

Although Dave Reynolds, Bill Goranson and Joel Gregory - three of the best would be shocked at how these figures look, I like them and may do some more regiments. Since one can never have enough Napoleonic line infantry and success goes to the big battalions, I shall adjourn to my figure catalogues!
