Rules: WRG 1950-75 GERMAN Elements 1st Panzer Army SITUATION: 24th Panzer Korps, 1st Panzer Army and six infantry divisions of 1st Panzer Army as well as 17th Army have been enveloped in a pocket by the Soviet 38th, 60th, and 40th Armies. 24th Panzer Korps with Army units is attacking to enable the encircled troops to rejoin Army Group "Mitte". MISSION: 16th Panzer Division and elements of SG Brigade 'Gross Deutschland' will attack west to push the Soviets away from the MARAYA RIVER and its tributary near the town of 'Tovacov' and secure the north flank of the main advance. AT START:

SITUATION: 5th and 42nd Tank Brigades 38th Army and 31st Tank Corps, 60th Army have pushed southwest to meet 40th Army and entrap the German 1st Panzer Army in the area NOVY JICIN, PROSTEJOV, KROMERIZ, Czechslovakia. Lead elements crossed the MARAYA River. Last night German armored forces began to attack to prevent the encirclement. The main fighting is the south and southwest. The German pocket is to the east and southeast. The Germans are attempting to move west. MISSION: Elements of the Motor Rifle Brigade, 31st Tank Corps, with supporting units are to prepare to defend the bridgeheads across the MARAYA River. Elements of 42nd Tank Bngade will use the bridgehead as a staging area to attack south. SUPPORT: Lead battahon of 42nd Tank Brigade is expected to reach your positions by noon 7th May 45, today. AT START: Within 500 meters of the MARAYA River and its tributary. Main defensive positions should face east to block the troops in the pocket. Up to 5 units no larger than platoon strength mav be placed anywhere on the table. 1ST BN 5TH TANK BRIGADE MUST BE WEST OF THE MARAYA RIVER. Infantry and antitank guns may be dug in. UNITS:

5th Tank Brigade, 1st BN (NOTE: set-up) Morale: +0 Vl=3 161st SP AT Regiment Morale: Reinforcements arrive so late (turn 34) that, in essence, it amounts to a second game. If the Germans don't destroy the Soviet bridgehead, then these units start in the Soviet bridgehead and the Germans are dug-in and on the defensive. If the Germans do destroy the Soviet bridgehead, then these units start on the West table edge. Soviets also get any units which successfully escape across the river. NOTE: Soviets will cut-off Germans only if they can capture a bridge across the river and then take a bridgehead at least 500 meters deep and hold it against the German forces.
