25mm Zulu Wars Range
This is definitely not a: "That's a range going well! What on earth can we scrape up to extend it?"
syndrome. All these figures and bits of equipment fill in the gaps either for Rorke's Drift or
Isandlwana or other battles of 1879. I will list the new figures, comment and draw some of them.
All ZU figures are 60p each at time of writing.
ZU19 Soldier kneeling firing in fatigue cap, leaning into the firing position
ZU56 Wounded Natal Mounted Police/Carabiniers trooper on foot, clutching stomach. The Police wore blue uniforms, the Carabiniers grey. Quite a sculptural face.
ZU109 Mounted Edendale Horse, NNH Contingent, riding, holding carbine, in boots. He has a bandolier and a wide brimmed floppy hat. He holds the carbine vertically in his right hand.
ZU110 Mounted Sikali Horse, NNH Contingent riding, holding spear, barefoot. He has a slung carbine. On my example the spearhead is so well defined that if I removed the casting support, which goes down to his foot, I fear the spearhead would part company with the shaft. Riding horse ZX69.
ZU111 Sikali Horse. NNH Contingent on foot, firing carbine. Bandolier, boots, and big hat.
ZU112 Zulu/NNC running with bandolier and rifle. Good action. Could do for either side.
Zulu Extra Figures and Equipment.
ZX58 Soldier kneeling on mealy bags or roof, stabbing with rifle and bayonet (provide your own
mealy bags or roof). Rorke's Drift for certain.
ZX59 Soldier in shirtsleeves leaning over mealy bags, etc. Stabbing down. Well, my example has no helmet and a tunic on (in 2 parts, trunk and legs). Could be Pvt. Hook defending the hospital.
ZX60 Soldier kneeling at the ready, bareheaded. No bayonet - good simple figure.
ZX61 British infantry crouching, firing. He wears a glengarry and is firing downwards or could be gauging the range. His weapon is a Martini-Henry.
ZX62 Soldier slumped over, to be placed over barricade etc. He's either badly wounded or dead.
ZX63 Dead or wounded soldier in torn shirt. One for the chapel floor, or operating table.
ZX64 Surgeon in apron wiping brow. Surgeon Major J.H. Reynolds of the Army Medical Department so well portrayed in -Zulu" the film. Reynolds did not have side whiskers, as this figure has, in the photograph I have of him. Excellent pose however.
ZX65 Soldier dragging two ammo boxes. A corporal too. One can feel the weight of the boxes in the pose.
ZX66 Dumford mounted on horse, firing pistol. That is Lt. Col. A.W. Durnford, Royal
Engineers' commanding No. 2 column to you. Didn't do as well a Lt. J.R.M. Chard, did he?
ZX67 Lord Chelmsford, mounted with telescope. Frederick Augustus Thesiger, 2nd Baron Chelmsford Lt. General commanding British forces in S. Africa, 1878-79. With a very long
telescope and a lovely frogged tunic, riding Z1161.
ZX68 British of fleer mounted on galloping horse, carrying furled standard. To my mind the thing that spoils this is the beautifully modeled standard. It's much too heavy and unbalances everything unless glued to a very solid base. Riding ZE168 which is galloping at quite a lick, this could be Lieutenants Adjutant T. Melvill lst/24th trying to save the Queen's colour - probably the real one was in it's leather sheath.
ZX69 Small native pony for Natal Native Horse figures. Well proportioned.
ZX70 British of ficer on foot with furled standard. What I have already said about ZX68 applies here.
ZX71 Galling gun and naval crew. A gun in parts, trail, barrels, wheels, magazine. Gunner in sennet hat. Ammunition Number with 2 spare mags and a Gun Commander with rifle indicating. A tremendous group.
ZX72 Corpulent Zulu Chief on foot with musket. Quite a lot of the Zulu chiefs were well fed looking gentlemen, so this can be the one of your choice! ZX prices vary up to œ5 for ZX71.
25mm Trojan Wars Range
I think this release just about wraps is up for the Trojan Wars range. Also, try "Before the Gates of Troy" skirmish game rules by Bill Johnson and David Ratcliffe. 5.00 & 1.00 pounds p&p from
Redoubt Enterprises.
Swordsmen. All packs contain a variety of poses.
T10 Six swordsmen with round shields, linen cuirass, greaves and boarstusk helmets. Some
great energetic poses here and all within the bounds of credibility - no contortionists.
T 11 Six swordsmen in bronze arrnour and helmet with round shields.
Heroes
TX10 Aneas, Prince of Troy, on foot in bronze armour, fringed leather helmet, figure of eight shield and sword. Getting stuck in, with his sword at "first cut to the head."
TX15 Antilochus, son of Nestor, on foot in bronze armour, cutaway round shield. Looking for an opening with his shield up and sword ready to cut or parry.
TX16 Glaucus, Prince of the Lukkas, on foot in a leather cuirass, stiffened reed headdress, shield, sword. Making a high overarm cut - mean man!
TX17 Polydamus, Trojan leader, plain bronze armour, crested helmet, shield, spear. Using the spear two handed.
TX18 Sub Chief or minor leader (possibly for a pike block), cuirass, helmet, thrusting with spear.
TX24 Hector triumphant! Hector standing over the body of a fallen enemy. Macho "You made my day" pose with Hector waving his sword in the air, his left foot on an agonized adversary.
TX25 Pans defeated! Menelaus, King of Sparta, dragging Pans by the helmet crest. Homer has nothing to tell us of Pans' death.
TX26 Death of Achilles! Achilles falls mortally wounded protected by Ajax and Odysseus. "Achilles, who has no decent feelings in him and never listens to the voice of mercy, but goes through life in his own savage way..." (Iliad, Boole XXIV).
TX27 Pack of six casualties in venous garments. Quite sculptural figures, especially the one in e "Dicing Gaul" position. Prices at time of writing - T10, T11 & T27 4.00/pounds pack. TX10, 15, 16, 17 & 18 1.50 pounds ea. TX24, 25 & 26 are 3.50 pounds ea.
Three Musketeers Range
TMX2 (6.00) Pack of eight characters, some with separate heads, including crippled old
soldiers, beggars, waifs and strays for the streets of Pans or the French countryside. Three women and five men. One bedraggled woman sits feeding her baby, another wrapped in rags tries to sleep, a third stands with her head covered in a shawl. Of the men - one holds out a bedraggled hat for alms, one legless has a lime 4 wheeled trolley and a pole to get himself along (see Brengel's paintings). Another one legged man sits to rest, one man with arm missing walks with a staff Another one legged man holds out a begging bowl. Very colourful to add to your skirmish layout.
