WARGAMES FOUNDRY 25MM
SIKH WAR and NAPOLEONIC

By Hal Thinglum

WARGAMES FOUNDRY, The Foundry, Mount St., New Basford, Nottingham, NG7 7HX, UK (0115-97-92002 or FAX 0115-97-92209) has released some excellent 25mm Napoleonic items! NPV 15 British Napoleonic Foot Artillery Limber (1809- 1815) consisting of three near side horses and three off side horses walking; three foot artillery drivers; two foot artillery gunners seated; and one limber (14.50 pounds). This is a beautiful set - I love artillery and limber sets and this one is exceedingly well done, as we have come to expect from WF! NPV 14 British Napoleonic Horse Artillery Limber (1809- 1815) - same price and same contents is also a great set. I can just see these fantastic toys on the wargames table while using my favorite Peninsular rules set by Barry Edwards "Playable Napoleonic Wargames!" One of the difficult - although it doesn't sound difficult - things about doing a wargames publication is that it is very hard to stay away from adding additional wargames periods when one receives samples of wargames figures! Crew members for British horse artillery are also available with NPCAV690-696 which consist of the following foot figures: NCO observing and four gunners; ready w/rammer, w/cannister shot, w/porte fire, and w/thumb on vent. Two mounted figures are also available - NAPCav696 mounted officer in pelisse, and NAPCav 696 mounted gunner. Excellent stuff; very little flash and great detail! Prices have increased for WF figures - foot are now 70 pence while horses are 85 pence. Ah, someday I shall do the Peninsular War! From WF's truly extensive line for the SIKH WARS in 25mm comes some new releases! SK119- 134 Sikh Irregular Infantry which "represent tribesmen and militia of the Punjab" which "cover the period from c.1750-1900" and can be used as "Afghans or against Afghans and Persians in the early 19th century, as levied troops in the Indian Mutiny and Maratha troops for the Gwalior Campaign of 1843 " . There are three chieftains (standing, walking & advancing). Next, what I've been waiting for - Sikh Irregular Cavalry "Ghorchurras" who were proud, highly individualistic cavalrymen for the Sikhs. There is a general, two officers (armoured & unarmoured), a trumpeter, three Noble cavalrymen (armoured w/lance, spear, sword), four unarmoured cavalry w/sword, spear, matchlock, and a mounted Akali fanatic w/matchlock. There are six horses available (three for Nobles and three for the others). Spears/lances and shields are separate. These are great figures; I especially like the officer figures w/axe and sword upraised over their heads. The armour/headgear looks fantastic! Horses are very good, as usual! Also new are Sikh Irregular Artillery crew SK152- 157 consisting of six gunners ("touching off" w/linstock shielding face - great figure, leaning on sponge, w/charge & ball, running w/priming flask, standing, and walking; the last two can also be used as civilians). Included for mention was SSG79 Sikh 12 pdr Sikh field gun (3.90 pounds), an excellently done gun with elaborately done carriage, as the Sikhs often did. Great stuff- I'm anxious to see my Sikh War collection on the tabletop!

Also, another Review of WF Sikh figures. --RL
