When I research uniform colors for a specific unit, I often use a number of sources. So, I generally jot down the information, including what specific paint colors I'm using, on an index card. In addition, I do a little sketch of a typical figure and color it with colored pencil, resulting in a finished card, somewhat like the one you see below, although nowhere near as neat. These cards come in handy, when a project is postponed - or, when you decide to add another battalion to the ranks - or, when a friend asks for some assistance - and you've forgotten what jars of color you originally used to get those nifty pink facings. It doesn't really take much time to prepare these and saves a lot of duplication of effort and trial & error later on. I got the idea from a master painter who saved all his information on typed full page sized sheets, including -documentation on his source material. I found this a little beyond my needs, as you may find my system beyond yours. But, fact is, it only takes a few minutes to prepare these cards and I have found them to be of great value any number of times just as I have found myself hating the fact that I forgot to make one out.
