Reading over a back issue of WARGAMES ILLUSTRATED I ran across an article by the Editor covering the theft of some of his finely painted 25mm Bavarian foot figures. The stolen troops had been left out on a dealer's table at a convention in England. There was also mention made of another painter who had all of his tools stolen at this same gathering. The British term for stealing is almost quaint - "To nick the goods". Here in the states, we call it theft, larceny or just plain stealing. As a detective in one of the suburbs near Detroit, my usual clients would fit in well at a convention in London. However, my own experience with gamers in this country has renewed my faith in human honesty as a character trait. After attending conventions for four years as both a dealer and participant and doing mail order sales with the wargaming community over that same period of time, i have nothing but the highest regard for the level of honesty our fellow gamers exhibit. Gamers pay their bills on time, respond well to fair treatment, and do not show any inclinations to "Nick the goods".
