If you are a WWI fan or are interested in the Franco-Prussian War, it would be worth your while to look into Die Kaiserzeit company. This is a small miniatures company run for more of a service than a profit business. IT is run by J.J. Daub who is Gen. Sec. of the Imperial German Military Collectors Association. The company specializes in Imperial German, its allies and enemies. The company has a very extensive line of WWI miniatures; these are all HO scale and are metal conversions copies of the plastic Airfix and some of the other plastic miniatures that are on the market. They have about the same amount of detail as the plastics, with some figures varying in size. The types covered are: Germans, British, French (both early and late war) early war Russians and Austro-Hungarians. Unusual figures in the range are: hatted Aussies, early and late war highlanders, tropical kit British and German East African white troops. There are several early war cavalry figures in the range plus an excellent 77mm 96C fieldgun and a French 75m gun. The French and German late war figures I have seen and painted, I would rate on a scale of 1 to 10 as varying from 5 to 9. The company also offers a line of heads to go with the figures if you wish to make your own conversions. These are sold only with a figure and you must behead the figure and drill your own neck peg hold to make the conversions. The Franco-Prussian War is not as extensive, but has several figures. It includes Bavarians, Prussians and French. This line includes gunners and some cavalry also. I have not seen any of the figures but presume they are of the same quality as their WWI miniatures. I have always received prompt and courteous service from this company. I think Mr. Daub has done an excellent one-man job at helping to keep WWI and Franco-Prussian wargaming around. I am glad some of the other miniatures companies are realizing the potential for gaming these wars! Figure prices as of last year are: Infantry = .45; riders = .35; heads = .10 each. Gun with 4 man crew = $4.00. Catalogs are $1.00. Die Kaiserzeit, PO Box 38, Keyport, New Jersey, 07735.
