This scenario may be adjusted to the player's whim regarding length of turns, troops involved or victory conditions. We've played it using 30mm figures and CLS rules with eight turns. Both sides set on before the game starts. Prior to turn one, the British player marks the location of the three sapper charges anywhere on the board up(west of) the river. Both British and French commanders then each roll two dice for each charge set. If the French roll higher than the British, it means that the charges have been located and snuffed out. If the British roll higher, the charges explode. Both players must roll against each other for each charge. Set On: The French must be behind work or in town except for the independent cavalry force which may be anywhere east of the river or off board (may enter board when it elects to). British must place batteries in works A, B, or C. Infantry may be in saps or anywhere behind and/or may enter board from southeast of river. Victory Conditions: French must inflict 50% C.E. on British (not Spanish) forces fro minimum victory and must hold all of town east of river free from enemy by conclusion of final turn. The British win by taking the town without falling to 50% C.E. (British only). Special Rule: Targets of high arc rocket and howitzer shots do not receive cover when in the town, behind walls or in saps. Suggested Orders of Battle: French Garrison consists of 3 ligne bn's, 2 legere bn's, sappers, 12lb gun, howitzer, 1 squadron dragoons, 1 squadron hussars, one 6lb horse artillery batty or 275 points, 24 lbs of artillery for garrison and 50 points, six lbs artillery for cavalry. Anglo-British consists of: one siege gun, one rocket, one howitzer in works; 8 British bn's of any infantry type, any available Spanish and sappers. One squadron dragoons, any available Spanish. Special Rules for 1808 Spanish Army:
Cavalry: The worst arm of the Spanish army, must cast dice for morale before they charge. If they fail, they just do not move that turn. Infantry: Change of formation and face as two separate operations and these units will take one full turn to form square (i.e. a square which is ordered on turn one will not be formed until after all movement and breakthroughs are completed for that turn). Before the Spanish infantry may charge or attack into melee, they must mast for morale (add one pip to dice) and if they fail morale, they simply do not move although they may carry out any other operation. 1808 militia as above but one pip worse for all die rolls. 1808 light infantry are not allowed to skirmish but may detach individual companies. Foreign regiments in the Spanish army are as regular line infantry (i.e. Irish, Swiss, Neopolitan). 1808 Spanish Army C.E: Die cast of 1-2-3=stand; 4=fall back two moves; 5-6=rout.
