Review of Ahketon USA

by Hal Thinglum

Ahkteton, USA, R.D. 1, Box 125, Philadelphia, NY 13673 (315-642-3235) recently set a huge shipment of their newest products. These included Boxer Rebellion figures from Red Wind Miniatures in England. These cover Boxers (5), French (5), Imperial Chinese (5), American (5), Japanese (4), Russians (4), and British (1). These figures have lots of detail, animation, and are nicely cast with no flash. Highly recommended to the Colonial player for this period. These are, by the way, 25mm figures. I am sorry that I do not have prices for any of the Ahketon USA products, all prices listed were in English pounds. Perhaps Tim can forward me additional information on this matter. They also have a new 25mm Texas War of Independence 1835-36 line consisting of 13 Mexicans and 12 defenders of the Alamo. Priced at .60 for a foot figures and .75 for a personality figure, they are quite robust figures, at least the five samples I received. They have very good detail and fantastic animation. I must add, however, that the anatomy is not what we are used to. I urge you to order samples of this line before ordering them to see if they will fit your personal taste. In favor of the line is the fact that they produce figures you will not find elsewhere, probably ever, including Mexican dismounted dragoons and lancers. Tim also offers Living Image 25mm Armies of the Crusades 1096-1291 (foot = .60. personalities = .75; cavalry = $1.50). The listing covers 16 figures at present, knights, crusaders and crossbowman. For review, I received a 13th century knight on foot which was nicely detailed and well done. They will be adding more figures in this range for late and early periods as well as Turks, Syrian/Egyptian figures and buildings, fortifications, tents and boats. Nice range, check it out. Now, a big surprise!!!! 20mm Spanish Civil War 1936-39. This line covers civil guard, moors, legionnaires, falange volunteers and moorish cavalry. There are 32 different figures available including hotchkiss MG's. I can highly recommend this line and think it would be of great interest to wargamers as it of off the beaten path as regards wargames periods. Foot figures are .55 each. Tim adds that there are two armored lorries in production and he promises to send them to me as soon as they are available. Just made a major mistake, the Spanish Civil War figures listed above are only Nationalist figures. There are 24 Republican figures including the International brigade, female militia, assault guards, and maxim guns. Future releases will include anarchists, male militias, Republican regular army, Basques and Catalans. A most interesting line indeed! By now, Tim should have ancient middle east (1500-600 B.C.) figures. The listing he sent me includes Assyrians, infantry and cavalry as well as baggage camel. These are 25mm figures. The line will be expanded to cover Scythians, Babylonians, Medes, Egyptians and other Assyrians. Now, another surprise! I received three 1/76th scale white metal castings for WWI and WWII tanks and they are the best I have ever seen. They come in kit form and are very easy to assemble. The list also includes modern tanks. You will have to check these out to believe them! I don't have prices for this line. I received a USSR T26A twin turret tank, a USSR T26B light tank, and a WWI Schneider (?). Great stuff, if you are into these periods, write to Tim for a catalog and price list !!!!
