Frei Corps ACW 15
Figure Line

Review by Hal Thinglum

Readers of Donald Featherstone's great WARGAMER'S NEWSLETTER will be able to relate to my pleasure at receiving a large box of figures from Frei Korps 15, 25 Princetown Road, Bangor, Co.Down, BT20 3TA, Northern Ireland. Donald, in his Must List, which my Bits & Pieces is modeled after, used to expound on his joy in receiving packages of sample figures and I always wondered what that would feel like! Anyway, Frei Korps 15 has developed into THE leader in 15mm figures as regards detail of figures. They previously, eight years ago or so, had a 15mm ACW line on the market when I was building my 15mm ACW armies and I purchased large amounts of them, being very pleased with the results. However, they were not pleased with the quality of their older line and have produced a new line which, in my opinion, are better, although I still liked the old one. Frei Korps 15 has to be the Ral Partha of Northern Ireland. Received for review were:

ACW1 -Marching,kepi,full pack: a "tired" veteran who looks it!
    ACW2 -Marching,kepi,blanket roll: as above,lots of equipment.

Also received for review were 26 guns(!), all of which are just great! I am not going to list them and make remarks on each, but rather will list them so you know what's available: 3pd Mtd Howz, 3pd Con.Mtd. rifle, Gatlin gun 1862, Requa bty gun, Agar gun, Williams gun, 6pd-1841, 12pd-1841, 12pd howz, 24pdhow, 24 pd howz, Napoleon howitzer (conf. and Union), 3" Rodman, l0 & 20pd Parrots, 12pd Whitworth (Muzzle & Breech loading), 12pd Brooke Rifle, 6 and 10 pd ward Rifle, 10pd Armstrong muzzle loader, 10pd Blakely Rifle Type 1, 10pd James Rifle, and on sedge carriages are 30pd Parrott, 32 pd howitzer. 24pd Smoothbore, 10" mortar, and a 32pd seacoast gun on barbette carriage, and a 24pd sedge & garrison gun on casemate carriage (great guns!!! as they say). The guns are all good, only one figure had any amount of flash on it, top of the line figures! These figures match very well size-wise with the Mike's Models USA ACW line, and of course, would go with the Hertiage line as well. I don't think you can find finer figures in 15mm anywhere! Highly recommended. Prices are as follows: Infantry (10) for $2.00; all guns-$1.00 except for 3 pdr (.50) and 30 pd Parrott, 32 pd Howitzer, and 23 pd Smoothbore ($1.50) and Seacoast and sedge gun (price unknown). These prices include airmail postage, a verygood deal!!!!
