Review by Hike Adams

RAFM Company Inc. , 19 Concession St., Cambridge, Ontario Canada, N1R 2G6:

I have raised a small Scythian army using these fine figures, all of which were taken from the Osprey Men-At-Arms series No. 137.

    AH-81 Scythian Command:Great.
    AH-82 Scythian Horse Archer: Great.
AH-83 Scythian Noble Heavy Cavalry: Great.
AH-84 Scythian Warrior mtd w/axe: Great, but needs bow case on body.
AH-85 Scythian Foot Warrior: Good figure but again needs bow case on body.
AH-86 Scythian Foot Axeman: Good figure.
    AH-87 Maiotian Infantry: good figure.
    AH-88 Scythian Noblewoman: Great.
AH-89 Scythian Foot Archer: Good figure.
Prices are 6 foot-$4.00; 3 Cavalry-S4.00. For those of you in the Chicago area, if you can't get these figures by mail from RAFM, try Charlie Prosek's Greenhouse and Military Model Shop (312-231-4991). He hasa good stock of them and other lines. I highly recommend this line of figures.

Minifigs

Minifigs have recently re-released some of their 25mm ancient lines. Some of these lines include: The Punic Wars (Rome, Carthage); Armies of the Bible (Egypt, Assyria, Arameans, Hebrews, Medes, Babylonians, Scythians); Classical Persia, Alexander's Army and Enemies, Successor Period, Rome and the East, Romans and Byzantines, Armies of the East, Classical Greece and Imperial Rome. I have received some of these in recent months. Host figures are open handed for weapons and the shield. I would like to know however, when they released the Imperial Roman line, what happened to the enemies (Celts, Britions, Germans, Saxons, etc.)?

Donnington Miniatures

I saw some of the Donnington Miniatures and they are very good looking. The size is the same as the l5mm Minifigs. Available from Wargames Inc., 1410 Promenade Bank Center, Richardson, TX 75050. Charlie Prosek also has them available at his shop for Chicago area people.

Corvus Miniatures

I have recently received some sample figures from Wargames Inc., (see address above). These samples were from their ancients line. Prices are as follows: foot= .85; cavalry $1.10.

    Thracians
TA1 - Early peltast with jav/shield: Good body, flat head
TA2 - Early or late peltast w/long spear & shield: Not received
TA3 - Lt. Infantry Jav/Shield: Nice looking but bad pose
TA5 - Late peltast w/rhomphaia/shield: good body detail but mix-shaped head
TAC3- Cetic horse archer: 2-part casting but doesn't fit well
TAC2-Light cavalry-Thracian: Nice pose but the head is mix-shaped.

The horses are not very good looking.

    Macedonians MA7 - Peltast w/jav/shield: finally a good figure!
MA13- Psiloi w/jav/shield: nice figure but no sandal on right foot
    MA15- Musician: really good
MA16- Standard bearer: Good but head seems small in helmet
MA17- Officer: Really good but poor pose, no shield given
    MAC1- General: Decent.

My overall opinion is that I can not recommend this line of figures.
