By Hal Thinglum - ENDURING VALOR: Gettysburq in Miniature - Volume 2: Scott Mingus has published Volume 2 of Gettysburg scenarios in the same format as Volume 1, a 76-page color effort. There are twelve Gettysburg scenarios (Rose Farm/Wheatfield, Cemetery Ridge, Culp's Hill, Brinkerhoffs Ridge, East Cemetery Hill and a variant, Pardee Field, Pickett's Charge, East Cavalry Field, Farnsworth's Charge, Fairfield, and South Cavalry Field) and Falling Waters (July 17th, 1863). Each scenario has an historical account, very complete orders of battle, a very nicely done color map, Union and Confederate details as well as scenario details, and game turns. The scenarios are written for JOHNNY REB III rules and thus, are concerned with regimental level actions. Available from Marek/Janci Design, Dept EV2, 725 Ranch Road, Wheaton, IL 60187-3656 (www.zouavemagazine.com, e-mail: zouave@directvinternet.com). In addition to Scott's fine work, I was impressed by the color photos of wargames, and of course, by Ivor Janci's publishing expertise. Scott has a website: www.geocities.com/scottmingus/index.html I really enjoy scenario books and make a habit of collecting them; this is a wonderful pickup! Highly recommended!

By Hal Thinglum - TRENCH STORM WWI RULES FROM THE TIN DICTATOR - MWANer Bob Rodgers of THE TIN DICTATOR, 39 Adeline Street, Hampstead, NH 03841 (phone/fax: 603-329-5695; www.tindictator.com), has released TRENCH STORM - Rules for the Conduct of 20mm WWI Miniatures Battles. This is a 63-page 8 1/2" X 11" effort. Bob reports: "Trench Storm! is a squad/platoon level simulation of small unit actions during WWI. 20mm is the recommended scale of figures, but any scale may be used. Each stand represents a squad, a support weapon, one vehicle, or one officer. Squad stands can have any number of figures but three is the recommended number. The basic maneuver element is the platoon, which consists of a number of squads and their support weapons. The rules allow for early free-flowing battles across France, to Lawrence fighting the Turks, to the trenches of Verdun. Also covered are Early Tanks and Armored Cars, Poison Gas, Devastating Artillery, the invention of the Flame Thrower, the coming-of-age of the Machine Gun, Snipers, and the demise of Cavalry. There is a Yahoo e-group, which the author frequents located here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Trench_Storm/

Price is $20.00. D6 are used, a typical "army" has four to five defending platoons and perhaps twice as many attackers. Sequence of play is as follows: Check wind direction, attacking artillery fire, defending artillery fire, air strikes, attacking shock troops, defender moves & fires, attacker moves & fires. There is a one-page inclusion of optional rules and an appendix with airplane details. This is followed by ten scenarios, each of which includes order of battles, deployment and setup, victory conditions, and a map. There are army lists for the US, Austro-Hungarians, British & Commonwealth, France, Germans, Italians, Russians, Serbians, Turks, and minor nations. Bob also carries the complete line of 20mm IT MINIATURES which covers the WWI Western and Eastern Front as well as the Russian Civil War. The booklet has black & white illustrations of WWI photos as well as some photos of wargames figures. There are two sets of "cheat sheets" as well as three cardstock sheets of game counters. In general, a nice set of rules for a period which seems to be growing in interest. Recommended!
