Several figure sets have either come on the market or come to my attention since I wrote the brief article on modeling the French Army in MWAN #115. Most of the sets have limited use to the gamer but will be welcomed by diorama enthusiasts. I currently own only two of these sets, though I intend to purchase them all eventually. I base the majority of my observations on scans and reviews I found online. French Napoleonic Engineers LW36 are done in siege armor and are portrayed in the act of digging. 16 figures in 11 poses. Nice figures with good variety. French Light Infantry 1805 Hat 8063 While intended for 1805 these troops will find their way into later armies. This is another solid effort. It includes a ring hand figure with the choice of Eagle or fannion. Napoleonic Polish Infantry and French Engineers. Strelets 003This set is primarily of Polish Infantry but also includes 12 Engineers again in siege armor and a character figure of Napoleon on foot. These figures are not as detailed as most we have come to expect but have a certain charm. Napoleonic French Army Camp Streets STRO01 This set is intended for the diorama maker. Three scenes are portrayed: Troops at rest including reclining figures, camp followers and a guitarist. A field hospital with wounded and doctors. And a field forge with a dragoon and blacksmith shoeing a horse. French Infantry 1815 Call to Arms 58 The uniforms in this set are accurate and are a welcome addition. The figures are on the small side and will not mix well. I plan on using these figures for the Prussian Army's Berg contingent. They wear short gaiters, full pack and uncovered shako. The figures are a mix of elites and fusiliers. There are only 8 posses (4 of each) and the price tag is high compared to most other companies. Personalities HYT7Y1003(French) - I include this set because one of the eight personalities from history is Napoleon. He is portrayed on foot dressed in chasseur uniform topped with greatcoat and his famous campaign hat. A nice figure but it is more for the collector. The other personalities are Rameses, Ceasar, Attila the Hun, Joan of Arc, U. S. Grant, R. E. Lee, and Charles DeGualle. Last I would like to provide a list of home pages where you can view or purchase the models listed above. Home Pages http://www.acalltoarms.co.uk/ Infrequently updated the site shows figures from each set as well as box art. htti)://www.strelets-r.coml Strelets home provides scans of the figures and gives some history on this company. http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Manufacturers.html Plastic soldier review is a site dedicated to 20/22mm plastic figures. It is a great source for scanned photos of the figures. It also provides reviews of sets and lines. Well worth the time to read over. http: //www. michtoy.com/ A vendor website one of several that offer toy soldiers. I list this because they have scans of the HTTY and LW sets.
