Internet Information

Newsgroups and More

By Chuck Hammack

Many times it seems our hobby has to few folks to share it with or limited resources. On the internet I have found a new world of like minded folks. We share rules modifications, develop new rule systems, share scenarios, or just trade friendly notes to pass the time of day. This is where we can all make contact with our like minded brethren?

One place is on the historical newsgroup. This is located at "rec.games.miniatures.historical". I use my email program to access this site. Two other places. Sites like the "www.fireandfury.com" and the Miniature Page "www.miniaturespage.com" provide a way for us to communicate with each other on a range of topics from specific rules like the former site to a resource site like the later.

The Magweb.com is a great site for a fee. Russ Lockwood has a hundred different magazines in the site. The Heliograph, Empire, Age of Napoleon, Battlefields, and many more. He is constantly adding back issues of each magazine. The site is going back in time for great magazines like the MWAN or Empires Eagles and Lions, the Courier and Zouave. I find the site search engine very useful for finding old articles or new ones on just about any topic. The nice thing is the ability to print the articles right off the net to the printer. I recently want to start researching on the Thirty Years Wars and its armies and out popped Bill Boyle's articles.

The Yahoo Groups pages have proved valuable too. "http://groups.yahoo.com" They have over one hundred different groups on historical miniatures. You will need to enroll with Yahoo but it only takes a little time and patience to set up a username and password. This area is growing almost daily. Each group has a place to up load files, picture, find addresses for folks in the group, and a discussion board. Here are a few that I belong to:

10mm-Miniatures, 2mm , 6mm-Miniatures , acwmb, Age-of-Discovery, Age-ofReason, ancmed, ARMATI, awi thru acw, Battlefront, BattlegroundWW2, BattlesForEmpire, BetweenTheWars, BGHR, canvas eagles, chadwick-ancients, chipcolist, civilwarminiatures, Classical-Hack, Colonial Battles, ColonialWars, commanddecision3, Crossfire-WWII, dayofbattle , DBA , dbmlist, DBR List, Empire Napoleonics, EMWargames, FASB, figuretrades , fireandfury, forlornhope, GASLIGHTrules, GenQuarters, GoreAMwar, Grand Manner, Great War, horsefootguns , HRN3, ironclads, jriii, Koenig-Krieg, LaceWars, MaximilianWar, meinpanzer, microarmor, Might-of-Arms, miniwars, NapoleonicFireandFury, Napoleonics, napoleonicwargaming, NapoleonicWars, napsbattles, NapWarfare , navalwargames, NHMGS, NWS, Piquet, RapidFire, REMPAS, RenWarfare, shako, Spearhead, sudanwars, syw, terrainmakers, TheFaceOfBattle, thirty-years-war, Valmy_to Waterloo, vnblist, WABlist, warflag, wargameswithminiatures, WoodenWalls, WorldWarIISkirmish, youandwhosearmy
