While paddling through the web, I came across a new company for Napoleonic miniatures, Trooper Miniatures, which offers the War of Liberation Prussian army. A Mr. Todd Harris sculpts these figures. The line of figures consists of 6 different infantry poses in the campaign uniform, i.e. covered shako, fixed bayonet etc. The packs are marching right shoulder arms, marching left shoulder arms, advancing bayonets level, firing line, Line command and landwehr command. The figures are cast in pewter giving a crisp and clean looking figure. Detail level matches the other manufactures well, though Calpe seems to be emerging as the standard of good quality sculpting. The landwehr command is interesting as one of the officers has a nice full beard. A slight draw back is the size of the musket does appear to be to short. Not too noticeable, unless you really study the figure. Now the big question, how do they compare to the established companies? I grabbed some of my Old Glory, Calpe, Foundry, and Redoubts to compare them as to height and appearance. Height wise the figures are the same. I measured from the base of the figure to the top of the head. Not the top of the headgear. The reason for that is the different size and types of headgear. The size is slimmer to some the wellfed British figures. We do know how poor the Prussian supply system functioned! Though they were not as slim as the Old Glory. I think a mixed unit of the different companies would look acceptable. Especially if you are attempting to achieve a "realistic" appearance. Meaning getting away from cookie cutter units to how the units looked with normal men. My landwehr will have the hastily raised look that mixing different manufactures will give. But my Prussian guards, well who wants the Guard to look anything less than professional. Now for the prices. Each pose is sold in packs of 8 for $8.00. Coming to $1 per figure. Compare to some of the other companies pricing themselves over $2 per figure; Trooper is a good alternative to good figures at a good price. So let support them with an order. You can contact them at www.trooperminiatures.com email toddharris@trooperminiatures.com normal mail Trooper miniatures, 533 West Water Street Piqua Ohio 45356. Phone 1937 773 9695. The website also has a gallery for you to look at the figures before you buy. The range is highly recommended.
