First of all, I must start this short update to Our Moccasins Trickled Blood by thanking the publisher of MWAN for providing gamers such as myself a format to see some of our work come to life in print form. Hal deserves a HUGE "thank you" from all of us for giving birth to MWAN, and carrying out the time-consuming duties of putting together the finest gaming magazine available. I hope that everyone who reads the pages of MWAN will take a few moments from their day and send Hal an email or letter to let him know your appreciation (and no, Hal is not paying me for this endorsement!).
On to OMTB ... in MWAN 114 the OMTB rules were made available to the general gaming community for the first time. The response to the rules, as well as the Yahoo Egroup 1, set up has been far greater than I expected. I have received emails and letters from MWANers with questions and support. David Sweet was kind enough to send me a copy of a paper he wrote in college along with copies of articles he has written regarding the Legion of the United States. Rich Barbuto emailed me with questions about the mechanics of OMTB, which really helped me took at the rules more closely. Irv Horowitz had several questions about the Fallen Timbers order of battle, which lead me to do more research. Craig Charron, who has hosted OMTB events over the years, has created some Hero rules (included below). And the Egroup has nearly 50 members on it now, from all over the globe. The interest in this relatively obscure period of US History is greater among garners than I thought!
Changes
VI. MOVEMENT
(add to Terrain Effects) Thicket/Heavy Woods: Movement halved. Stationary units are spotted at 3". Moving and/or firing units are spotted at 6". Open Woods: Stationary units are spotted at 6". Units moving and/or firing in open woods are spotted at 12".
VII. FIRE
(add to Fire Table)
If artillery has moved, it must spend two operations loading after unlimbering.
IX. MELEE
(add to Melee Section)
If a figure's die roll is twice or more than that of his opponent, then the opponent is killed If a figure beats his opponent but doesn't double him, then the opponent falls back one skirmish move, If two figures are fighting one, roll one die for each figure involved. In sonle cases the single figure will be able to successfully fend off the more numerical foe.
Example: Two Legion figures (armed and charging) are attacking a single Shawnee in a thicket. The Legion figures have the following modifiers: formed troops with bayonet +2, charging +1. The Shawnee figure has one modifier, a +3 for defending a thicket. The Legion throws two dl0s and gets a modified result of 10 and 4. The Shawnee rolls a final result of 8. The Shawnee has doubled one of the Legion figures, so that figure is killed. The other Legion figure beat the Shawnee without doubling him, so the Shawnee figure falls back.
