The year 2000 was a watershed in the history of Matrix Gaming. All told we did nine full campaign games on line. British Colonials, Vietnam 1946, Ancient Korea, Passchendale 1917, X Files, Ottomans in Romania 1455, and even a replay of the Presidential recount right at the end of the year! This happened because finally after many years of recruiting, there is a small core of Matrix Gamers. We play the games on the Matrixgamer egroup and our membership is world wide (USA, England, Spain, Italy, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia). Early in the year I finalized what we are now calling the "Classical Matrix Game" rules. I know I'm done because I haven't done a rewrite in a year! They are freely available on my web page (hamster@io.com) which is also where you can go to join the egroup. Matrix Games turn out to be perfect for play via email. Not really surprising when you consider how much of the development work on it was done in play by mail games. If you've never played you can watch one happen. Its the best way to learn. I must warn you, the Matrix Gamer egroup is not your normal wargame group. Wargamers are usually pretty Republican. While in my egroup, I tend to be the right wing (and I'm a Liberal!) Still we tend to stay on topic and play good games. I'm hopeful that 2001 will be and even better year for Matrix Gaming.
