These rule modifications are intended for 15mrn figures. All distances, speeds, and weapon ranges have been reduced by half, even if not specified below. If using 25mm or 30mm figures, use existing CLS ranges, etc. All other rules of CLS are in effect unless other otherwise specified below. ARTILLERY Government Artillerymen and French artillerymen in the service of the Jacobite Army are considered regulars. Firing Procedures: Roll 1 D-6 for each gun firing (regardless of caliber): Ranges:

If a hit is scored on artillery, roll 2d6
Artillery can only unlimber during movement and not prior to firing. Coehorn Mortars can fire over intervening obstacles, i.e. houses and terrain features (similar to howitzer fire). They fire like a field gun in all other respects. [Author's note: The Artillery fire rules were modified because 15mm figures are too small to be used with the original CLS artillery sticks. Also, artillery was less effective in 1745 than during the Napoleonic era.] MOVEMENT
Artillery
SPECIAL INFANTRY RULES All units have two operations per turn, except units Changing Face or Formation (which during this period are separate operations). Units Changing Face or Formation are limited to one operation for that turn and must Change Face or Formation off the center of the unit. A unit forming square takes the entire turn to form square. A square ordered on turn 1 will not be formed until all movement and breakthroughs are completed for that turn. The minimum number of figures necessary to form a square is 12. Units attempting to form square cannot fire that turn. All Government infantry can form square. In the Jacobite army, only the Irish Picquets, the Royal-Ecossais and Murray's Atholl Brigade had sufficient training to form square. All Highland infantry may force march once per day if the army is moving as a whole. This rule applies only during a strategic map move. SPECIAL CAVALRY RULES Companies of cavalry can operate independently of each other. All cavalry operate as Heavy Cavalry, except Kingston's Dragoons for the Government and Baggot's Hussars for the Jacobites. These units operate as Light Cavalry. Government cavalry cannot dismount. Jacobite cavalry can dismount but their horses are lost for the game. CHARGES Column charges are not allowed. Units can only charge in line formation. Charging units can always take Breakthrough (even if it is not ordered). Jacobite Highland infantry has a +1 line charge dice score adjustment (they automatically get their muskets back after a melee). This bonus does not apply to the Manchester regiment or the Foreign Contingents (Irish Picquets and RoyalEcossais) serving with the Jacobite Army. Highlanders serving with the Government Forces and Government Grenadiers also receive a +1 bonus when charging.
* Figures with Claymores and Lochober Axes have a melee vulnerability of "2". Onethird of each Jacobite Highland infantry unit is so equipped at the beginning of the game. As a unit takes casualties, these figures are lost (other Jacobite infantry cannot pick up their weapons). ** The Jacobite Lifeguards have a melee vulnerability of "3" since they wore a cuirass. All Government units are -I on pre-melee rolls when charged by Jacobite Highland Infantry units (but not when charged by Jacobite regulars or Foreign units). Standard bearers are always the last figure killed in a unit. If units are meleed while in column, they are -1 on their pre-melee die rolls and -1 in melee. SMALL ARMS FIRE Musket range is 6". One-third of each Jacobite Highland infantry units is armed with muskets. As a unit suffers casualties these figures are lost (eg. other Jacobites cannot pick up the fallen muskets). Jacobite infantry fire individually as skirmishers. Their base number to hit is "7". They can fire a maximum of two ranks deep. The Irish Picquets and Royal-Ecossais fire in volley and can fire up to two ranks deep. All CLS modifiers for small arms fire apply (except that Government infantry is = +1). Cavalry cannot fire from the saddle. MORALE Unit Type : Morale Rating
* If Grenadiers are attached, or within 3", morale is increased to 6.
COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS (CE) Jacobite Highland Infantry units can combine to form larger CE units, up to a total of fifty figures per unit. Jacobite Cavalry units cannot combine with each other, with the exception of the two troops of Life Guards which can combine to form a single unit. Jacobite artillery and the Manchester Regiment have militia CE. All other units, including the French Artillery and the Lifeguards, have normal CE. A unit's CE is not affected by the presence of its commander. This rule applies to both Jacobite and Government units. RETREAT AND RALLY PROCEDURES: Jacobite Highland Infantry units return to full capability immediately on the turn following a Fall Back 1 and can attack or charge enemy units. They must rally after a Fall Back Two or a Rout Units which Fall Back or Rout off the Li& of a table are destroyed. However, units which Fall Back or Rout off the baseline of a table can rally and return. CULLODEN SCENARIO On the first turn of the game (and every turn thereafter), each Jacobite Highland Infantry unit must test for impetuous movement. One D-6 is rolled for each unit. On the roll of a "6" the unit fails and must immediately move its full movement towards the Government line. If a unit rolls a "6", other units within 4" will move impetuously on a roll of a "5" or "6" (players should start testing units on one flank and work their way across the board to the opposite side). Only roll once for each unit. General Movement begins after each unit has been tested. Those units which failed their test must move again at full speed (in effect, a double move) towards the Government line. Those units which passed their test can remain in place or move part or all of their movement. This process is repeated every turn until all Jacobite Highland units have failed their test or have contacted an enemy unit in melee. ORGANIZATION OF JACOBITE FORCES FOR CLS(20: 1 ratio)
MOUNTING FIGURES All Cavalry is on 2-man stands. Jacobite infantry should be on 3-man stands. However, 2-man stands are allowed to accommodate Jacobite infantry with odd numbers. For example, Lord Lovat's Regiment (Frazers: 20 figures) would have six 3-man stands and one 2-man stand to represent its 20 figures. The Irish Picquets and Royal-Ecossais are also mounted on 3-man stands, but are mounted on smaller stands than the rest of the Jacobite infantry (see STAND SIZES, below). Cavalry command figures would include an officer and a standard bearer. Infantry command figures would include an officer, a standard bearer, and a piper. Command figures are optional except that every unit must have a flag or standard. Artillery has 4 men per stand. Limbers are optional. ORGANIZATION OF GOVERNMENT FORCES FOR CLS(20: 1 ratio)
* Regiments marked with (*) wore blue breeches rather then white.
ARTILLERY
MOUNTING FIGURES An Cavalry is on 2-man stands. Each Cavalry regiment consists of 2 squadrons of 2 companies each, plus a 2 man command stand, for a total of 10 men in a regiment. The command stand consists of an officer and a trumpeter. They did not carry standards into battle. Infantry battalions (with the exception of the Argyll Militia) consist of 12 companies 01 2 men each. Each battalion has 11 center companies and one 2 man grenadier stand. The grenadier stands can be stripped from the line battalions to form a converged grenadier battalion. Command figures consist of an officer, a standard bearer and a drummer. They are scattered throughout different center companies of the battalion. They fire muskets and melee as line infantry, not grenadiers. The Argyll Militia consists of eighteen 2-man stands. It does not have any elite companies. Infantry carried either the regimental standard or the King's Colours. Artillery has 4 men per stand. Limbers are optional. STAND SIZES
* The larger stands for the Jacobite units reflects the looser fighting formation of the broadsword equipped infantry. The Irish Picquets and Royal-Ecossais are mounted on 3-man stands as per Government infantry.
