Heroics & Ros 6MM SYW Figures

Review

By Hal Thinglum

I've been interested in 6mm SYW gaming using Volley & Bayonet rules & ordered a pack of Heroics & ROS 6mm SYW Prussian Musketeers advancing to be painted by Robin. This was as easy as a phone call (517-724-5697; e-mail: itybtyrob@a1access.net); price was $27.50 for the pack which gives you nine strips of five musketeers; a four man strip of command, two standard bearers, another drummer and pioneer, and a foot officer and mounted officer; a total of thirteen strips. Robin paints the figures right on the strips and this works out well. The painting is very good - he even paints the two standards in a very acceptable manner for this scale! Here's what is painted on the musketeer: Blue coat, straw trousers, black gaiters, red facings on cuffs and collar(!), white cross-belt, brown musket w/silver trim, silver bayonet, black scabbard with gold sword hilt, silver canteen on white canvas bag, hair, black tricorne with white trim, and flesh hands and face. Robin charges by the bag for H&R for 50 figures; however, counting horse and rider as two, there are a total of 56 figures. Cost per figure is 49 cents. Postage was $1.50. Turn-around time was four to five days! He also offers AIM, PERRIN, and IRREGULAR 10mm and HALLMARK planes and ships. Very highly recommended! By using stands 2/3's the regular VnB size (1" X 2"), because of 6mm, I can get two full units of musketeers out of the bag. Good work, Robin!

H&R has a quite extensive line of 6mm SYW; total of 34 bags ($4.90 per bag of 50 foot/ 20 horse/3 wagons/6 guns) though only the Prussians and Austrians are offered. The list covers all figures I would need for a Prussian and Austrian force, except that there are not any Austrian Generals - this can be easily resolved by using Prussian Generals. The figures are very good; sturdy little devils. No breakage. They come five figures behind each other on strips are snipped easily. For instance, my foot units will be three ranks deep, thus, I will just snip off the first three and mount them. Excellent detail; I didn't expect this kind of quality from a manufacturer as the line has been out for a long time. I was very pleasantly surprised! Available from REGAL MINIATURES, 1980 94th St., Suite D, Des Moines, IA 50325 (515-253-0907; FAX 515-251-3906; WEB: www.regalminiatures.com; e-mail: comicsplus@ia-omni.com) High recommended!
