Origins 2003 Awards

Kovalic Nominees

by John Kovalic

Speaking of the Academy, the Origins Awards are the gaming industry's equivalent of the Oscars, and I'm proud to say LOTS of Dork Tower, Dork Storm and related goodness has been nominated for Origins Awards (http://www.originsawards.com) this year!

Here's the list!

Best Abstract Board Game
Squint (Out of the Box Publishing)
I was art Director on this project, and Squint really IS a great game!

Best Card Game Expansion or Supplement
Munchkin 2 : Unnatural Axe (Steve Jackson Games)
I think most folks know my contributions to this. :-)

Best Traditional Card Game
Star Munchkin (Steve Jackson Games)
...and THIS.

Best Game Aid or Accessory
Gamemastering Secrets (Grey Ghost Press Inc)
Grey Ghost is a VERY cool company, and lots of Dork Tower comics litter this otherwise exceptional book.

Best Graphic Fiction
Once Upon A Time ( in Nodwick # 18 ) (Dork Storm Press) Understanding Gamers ( in Dork Tower # 18 ) (Dork Storm Press)
Yes, it bites that Dork Tower and Nodwick are up against each other. Oh, well. That's life...

Best Game Periodical
Dork Tower (Dork Storm Press)
I think most folks know my contributions to this. :-)

Best Play-by-Mail Game
Button Men Web Game (Cheapass Games)
Take the Carson Button man, and beat people up!

Best Roleplaying Adventure
Sheep on the Borderlands ( from Dork Tower 17 ) (Dork Storm Press)

Jeff Tidball and the crew at Atlas Games did an EXCEPTIONAL job with the module that appeared in Dork Tower 17. And some fabulous art from Aaron Williams and Jason Holmgren really rounded everything off!

No matter what you like, or which games or games systems you support, just make sure you support the Origins Awards. It's quick and relatively painless! Go vote!
