6. Notes

a) Line Battalions have standard organisation of 4 companies.
b) Inner Guard militia are most likely to be locals in native dress, armed with bows or musket and/or spear.
c) The East Caucasus Cossacks guarded the border along the Terek River from Mozdok to the Caspian. The West Caucasus Cossacks patrolled the Circassian border from the Black Sea to Mozdok.
d) Some of the Black Sea garrison infantry are Jagers , poorly equipped and not skirmish trained.
e) Grebensk, Kizliar, Terek Cossacks are dressed Caucasus style, carrying slung musket in decorated leather case, spear and sword, and are superior in quality to Don Cossacks.
